I know I can't handle the whole planned hike, but I've done Rough Trail before. If so, I'm interested in this trip with a modified route. There might be a couple of other TT'ers who would be interested. last edited: 4/29/08 12:23:48 PM” 12:19:10 PM 4/29/08 “If I am there that's what I would be doing...I am the shuttle queen...or, at least my car is...just ask Prosecutor...by the way, I am really giving this serious consideration and hope to be there...” 12:38:00 PM 4/29/08 “there you go windigrrl.” 1:01:23 PM 4/29/08 “Sounds like a winner to me!” 1:06:05 PM 4/29/08 “Nice kilt weather!” 2:26:56 PM 4/29/08 “I didn't attend this last time but I'm a maybe. It is at least close for me. I'm afraid that I may be a bit out of shape but I have a little time to work on that. We'll see how I do.” 4:09:12 PM 4/29/08 “this is tougher than mammoth. to give you a measuring stick, chinmusic did it. he was hating life, but he did it.” crash bang 8:12:05 AM -------------------------------------------- “it's also more like 16 or 17 miles” crash bang 8:16:14 AM suck it up hiker trash! LOL! Dude, you know if there is any way I can make this trip I am definitely in! Especially if it's a CrashBang-welcome-home-thang! I may need to hitch a ride but we'll se as it gets closer.” 6:15:05 PM 4/29/08 “hmmm, this trip is starting to get some peeps that i haven't seen in a while...i just might have to beg the wife to watch the kids for the weekend and come with out her” 5:56:45 AM 4/30/08 “im sure thatll go over like wet blanket” 6:18:28 AM 4/30/08 ““this is tougher than mammoth. to give you a measuring stick, chinmusic did it. he was hating life, but he did it.” crash bang 8:12:05 AM -------- I WAS sucking air. The big problem for me was we only had 9 hours of daylight in December. I felt the pressure of completing a not-so-easy-to-follow-in-places trail before dark.” 10:28:32 AM 4/30/08 “There's definitely some areas on Swift Camp Creek Trail that I wouldn't want to do in the dark!” 1:59:01 PM 4/30/08 “I wouldn't be as concerned about completing Swift in the dark now since I have it logged in my GPS. I wouldn't get off track very far. Or as Crash would say, "Chin can now find it with both hands".” 2:38:22 PM 4/30/08 “I still have not had a chance to find out how tough Mammoth is.” 2:42:50 PM 4/30/08 “chin. i didnt mean for you to feel pressured to finish before dark. thats why i insisted everyone bring headlamps, just in case. we finished well before dark, anyways” 6:29:44 PM 4/30/08 “Chin, I'm with you. A June hike for those kind of miles on SCC would be much better than December. It will be a trying hike but with day packs and June daylight hours, I view it as doable. [lord, what did I just get myself into] :)” 7:18:40 PM 4/30/08 “Crash - I wasn't casting any blame. I knew it was gonna be a tough day for me. I have great memories of the trip. I appreciate you waiting for me at that one tricky turn somewhere in the middle of Swift.” 7:23:41 PM 4/30/08 “Mariposa - You might want to cache some trusted boots at the road crossing at the start of Swift......heheh I'll prob cache some Diet Coke.....” 7:26:17 PM 4/30/08 “Ha ha ha Chin. I think those boots are my friend now...of course for this trip I believe I'll be in my day hikers...then again, I think I'll be limping regardless. :) I think you have a Diet Coke problem. I'm thinking an intervention might be needed. :) Give Mugsy a scratch from me.” 7:38:06 PM 4/30/08 “Scratch transfer successfully accomplished. Yogisan found a 6-pack of something that suited his taste better on that trip.....hic” 7:43:39 PM 4/30/08 “I appreciate you waiting for me at that one tricky turn somewhere in the middle of Swift.” my first time on swift, i was coming from the other direction, and missed the turn there, if im thinking of the right spot. that whole area, theres potential for taking a wrong turn, since there are so many dead-end sidetrails that look like the main trail, and slowly peter out” 9:12:16 PM 4/30/08 “this time, the issue wont be daylight, itll be heat and humidity. and possibly deep, but safe, stream crossings” 9:14:06 PM 4/30/08 “myself included, i know of three people that are stoked about some easy climbing on sunday morning... anyone else? it's a definite go in my book. we'll pick a few easy routes, i'll lead them and fix a top-rope, and we'll climb for a few hours.” 8:39:02 AM 5/01/08 “Heya Jimmy I could prolly be persuaded to do some climbing...IF the hike on Sat doesn't kill me! Also....anyone interested in carpooling gimme a yell!” 8:59:34 AM 5/01/08 “UPlover! you coming! way cool...I'm gonna get to see lots of old friends!” 9:17:14 AM 5/01/08 “I would have to problem driving, however if I cannot get my wife to let me drive the van, it will be worthless for me to drive my Jeep (seats 2 including me plus gear).” 9:29:13 AM 5/01/08 “I meant I would have no problem driving.” 10:35:05 AM 5/01/08 “I'll have room if anyone wants to share a ride.” 11:05:35 AM 5/01/08 “i can carry 4 from chicagoland + gear in the back of the pickup. i have already offered a seat to crash so there are two more seats avaliable. i'll be climbing on sunday so not leaving until later on sunday (getting in late sunday night to chicagoland). if someone else offers to drive i'll gladly ride but it would have to be with a return later on sunday as i don't want to miss a chance to climb in the red for event 1/2 a day... the climbing is just too good to pass up.” 11:09:36 AM 5/01/08 “JIm, I will drive if I can get the van. If not, may I take one of the seats in the truck left?” 11:14:29 AM 5/01/08 “good deal. so i am down to one seat if you can't drive.” 11:16:27 AM 5/01/08 “I can seat 6 with gear comfortable, 7 if need be. Will be heading down Friday afternoon and flexable about the time on Sunday. If anyone wants to share a ride e-mail me.” 4:52:50 PM 5/01/08 “wtf are you driving? a school bus?” 7:00:20 PM 5/01/08 “no an Acadia. It seats 7 and has room in the back as well as up on top. It's my new ride.” 7:30:06 PM 5/01/08 “that's a cool suv. i have never seen one of those before so it must be new. awd is great... our subaru has that (of course) and we love it. it's a bit tough on gas but it looks like it carries more passengers than my 4wd pickup -but- can also carry the cargo. very cool. congrats on the new car!” 5:55:59 AM 5/02/08 “Why is it that everyone always comes from Indiana? I never get to car pool =( Birch can't make this one but has offered to take care of arranging sitters and stiff for the kidlet so I am considering myself there, unless gas prices hit too high or something. No log throwing allowed.” 12:40:16 PM 5/02/08 “Could you drive down our way and leave your car here? UP lives in Goshen/Elkart? IN which is closer to you than us. Perhaps that would work?” 1:05:42 PM 5/02/08 “yeah... exactly. that's a much shorter drive and hence could cut your gas bill sass.” 2:50:19 PM 5/02/08 “sas your gill bass...” 3:06:29 PM 5/02/08 “lmao what the hell ya been drinkin, moocher boy? Sass- ygm” 4:01:02 PM 5/02/08 “have any of you non-climbers that are going to climb ever belayed a lead before? i may be taking my life in my hands (or yours to be more precise) as i fix a top-rope. i think 4assmonkey will becoming and if so he can belay me on lead. it won't matter because i won't fall.” 6:46:40 PM 5/02/08 “speak english honorable yogisan. I no unnerstands you. :)” 6:59:04 PM 5/02/08 “you gotta come and feed me stomper! that noodle dish with the crab meat was heaven! the rest of the ppl on this trip won't have anything good in their food bags!” 7:02:23 PM 5/02/08 “i have belayed, beggarsan” 7:24:02 PM 5/02/08 “as was mentioned before, the last time we did this, time was a factor due to the limited december daylight. however, this time we will have plenty of time, so i recommend we take a few sidetrips. there are plenty to choose from” 7:26:12 PM 5/02/08 “I have only dropped one person but I made it look like an equipment failure! ASS ASS ASS ASS” 7:33:03 PM 5/02/08 “gotta pick a good place to climb. left flank is pretty good... esp top-rope on "mr bungle"... it's a 5.8+ but really that's for the start and then it's a lot easier as you get up. new climbers can hang past the first draw on top-rope. my 8-year old climbed it and only needed a boost to the start. then "face up to that crack" is again a great climb and is a 5.8 but more because of a tough start... it gets a lot easier as you go up. if i can get a good belay i would love to climb "to defy the laws of tradition" (5.10a). i climbed this last year and i was easily the best sport route i climbed all year. ”7:35:44 PM 5/02/08 “FOURASSMONKEY! RIGHT ON!” 7:37:49 PM 5/02/08 “wow. that looks harder than 5.10. i climbed with a guide in WV and he told me one of the routes i climbed was a 5.10. being in different parts of the country, ratings could vary some, i guess” 7:39:33 PM 5/02/08 “the holds are small but it's got a lot of pockets and good crimpers. lots of places to toe-in. many ways to climb it. a lot of fun. the rock in the red is sandstone and very grippy so the smallest of holds do the job very well. lots of chalk on this wall as you can see but you seldom need any in the red... the sandstone is very, very grippy. outstanding climbing quality.” 7:41:46 PM 5/02/08 Jump to Page << prev
