safe travels all!

chinmusic called last night. he was already on his way to the red! he is going to set up at the camp site off of TRR... with his GPS I know he'll find the site. so look for his tent. i gave hime some dayhike ideas (silvermine arch, angel window, etc). so he will be out and about doing whatever he decides to do.

i'll be rolling out mid-day, picking up crash and the captn' later in the day. so expect crash, captn, and fourass to arrive fairly late... prolly after dark... but we'll be there!

we'll need help staging the shuttle... the first order of business tonight. if you guys want to stage a car at the end of the hike so we don't have to do this later that would be super cool. you would have to look at the map to make sure you hit the right trailhead. it's easy to find and there is lots of parking in the lot. if you don't feel up to it don't worry. we can do it when we get there.

Everybody is on their way home or just about to leave the red after sunday lunch at Miguels. Great company, OUTSTANDING food (by far the best car camping fare ever on a TT trip). Everybody that tried the 15.5 mile hike finished and did so in great time. The weather was PERFECT and saturday night was outstanding in this regard. Sunday we went climbing. Left flank was clogged with sport climbers so we bailed to military wall where we spent the morning (stomper even tied in and made a very impressive attempt.) Thanks to all that attended for your time, friendship, and good spirits (and great food!). This was a great season kick off trip for me and I don't think it could have gone any better.

OH! And special thanks to windigrl and the outstanding cobbler, mac n cheese, and pancakes! Thanks to meangrean for the bacon wrapped poppers. Thanks to birch and sass for sharing their corn, potatoes, steaks, salmon, and swordfish. Thanks to stomper for the noodles. Thanks to chin for the graham crackers and chocolate, even if we were too stuffed to eat the smores! Thanks to those that helped stage the shuttles (windigrl esp). Oh, and thanks to upluver for the bourbon (of course) and to nigal for recommending the outstanding label!

I'm home safe and sound, after dropping UPluver in Lima and Birch at the airport. Guess who has the bourbon now? ;)
I somehow ended up with the bottle, which is half full, and a platy of cheap stuff. Too bad I don't like bourbon!

Birch and I agreed, this was by far our favorite RRG trip thus far. The hike was challenging and gorgeous, the company perfect, the weather good, and the food amazing!
Thanks, everyone, for making this a great trip. I wish we could have lingered longer today.

Ditto what Yogi posted. We hit the weather near perfect, cooler than average and just the right amount of rain to keep it interesting/cool. Thanks to Birch for having a tarp to sit under for Friday evening. Sunday's heat made me ever to thankful that I didn't have to do the Saturday hike under those conditions. The relatively short loop hike I selected about cooked me.

Mugsy and I got home late Sunday and went straight to bed. He ate so much on Saturday evening he wasn't even interested in a White Castle cheeseburger on the way home.

Anyone visiting RRG HAS to have a pizza at Miguels.....amazingly good pizza.....or maybe I was just REAL hungry.

No pics from me either.

Just got doing my normal Monday-noon workout. For the 20-min on the elliptical plus 40-min of lifting my heart rate averaged 119.

For the 9+ hours on Saturday my average heart rate was 149.

Swift Creek Camp Trail is a beast......

It was one of the most rugged trails I have ever hiked. Only Isle Royale compares. I loved it! I do wish I had pictures of the drop off and the wash outs. My mom is a chronic worrier and it's fun to show her stuff like that after the trip. >=)

i don't think i have ever seen the place so lush as it was when we were there. the last time we did this trip was basically winter and swift camp creek was totally different. this time it was so very clear that we were hiking in a "wilderness area" and the vegetation was really taking over... ferns and other plans brushing against us as we worked our way up and down the trail. it makes one really appreciate how important it is to set aside areas like this to go back to nature and how beaten-down other areas have become as a result of human activity.
