We did this once before and it was a blast. We should do this again this season and spice things up a bit with a cookout or something. The camp sites off of TRR are perfect for this, IMO. Date is tenative. I just want to see if I plan it who will go...

i have a pair of shoes but they are size 11 i think... but more for bouldering. very uncomfortable and prolly not a good shoe for you even if it fit.

these might work then. they are really tight on me. i have been stretching them out but they are rubber/syhtnetic uppers and don't conform as much as leather. i even microwaved them to warm them up to get them to change shape. getting better but tighter...

I don't have to work that weekend. Have to see where everyone else is going to be and if I can get someone to sit on the child while I'm gone, but I'm very interested.

this could be fun...might have to be a day trip for us...my wife is still bragging about the 12 miles she did at mammoth...i can't imagine how much she'll go on about 14 at the gorge

this is tougher than mammoth. to give you a measuring stick, chinmusic did it. he was hating life, but he did it.

Can this hike be modified for some who want to do it, but a little less miles? Can one start off from tunnel ridge road and cut the mileage down to around 8-10? It would still be a challeging hike.

it's up to whoever has the vehicles, but it would be simple to set up intermediate distance shuttles. you could try to do all of the rough trail

I am considering driving to Cincinnati this summer to visit my sister...I was hoping someone would plan a trip in Kentucky where car camping was a possibility...would this trip allow that, Yogisan? How far is it to drive from Cinci to the Gorge? anyone know? I wouldn't be hiking with you...duh...but I'm good at hanging out, shuffling cars, stuff like that...

Hour and a half drive for ya. Regarding car camping here, Yogi and Crash are the experts as I have never hiked here.
Wounded Knee

mata: there are car camping options we can work on if you want to join us. also, the camp sites i was thinking of were not NEXT to the car but perhaps less than 1/4 mile FROM the car. i would gladly lug your gear to the camp site if it meant the pleasure of your company at camp friday and saturday night. in fact we will be driving through cincinatti and could pick you up and drop you off if you wish. plenty of room in my pickup truck for hikers + gear. let me know.

oh, and there are vault toilets near the cars/camp sites. just no water... have to carry it in.

finally we don't -have- to camp so far out from the car, only the specified distance from the parking lot... but there are blazed trails to the good camp sites just in a bit from the parking lot.

i have one that in particular is my favorite because it's a short walk dowhill to running water (all of the other camp sites are dry)... but i'll be carrying in some water in a plastic jug. it's not 1/4 mile... prolly less than that.
Yogisan

1/4 of a mile is nothing, Yogisan...as far as I'm concerned that's car camping...I have not even started planning this trip...I wanted to see if anything interesting popped up on TT and lo, now that it has, I shall email my sister in Cinci...I'll keep in touch and thanks for the offer driving me there...

Cincy to Gorge is more like 2.5 hours.
ductape

nogranola: a mere marathon involves running on mostly flat ground for 26.2 miles with no mud, rocks, super steep hills, fallen logs, etc. this is MUCH more difficult.

it takes longer with the liquor stop that is mandatory before entering a dry county.
