Want Madagascar hissing roaches?View MessagesViewing posts 1 to 38 of 38 messages posted.
“Way off topic here, do forgive. But I have a rather large spate of hisser babies. Backpackers are typically animal lovers, as are their kids. Believe it or not, these bugs do make great pets, matter of fact here in Phx some our petstores sell them for $20 each. So google Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches and see if your little ones would be interested in some "hisser" babies. E me if you want any more info, they are now the size of sow bugs, or a little bigger (you may know these as pillbugs or rollypollies), and get to about 4 inches (the males). Until they are a little bigger, you'll need some type of plastic container with holes drilled or poked into it, small holes. Like a candy container, or even a bigger-sized pillbottle. Yes, they do hiss, and no they do not bite (I cain't imagine why, surely their mouths are big enough on adults).” 10:22:28 AM 5/06/08 “Are hissing roaches as bad as itching crabs?” 10:40:36 AM 5/06/08 “Isn't "Mitsubishi" Japanese for hissing cockroach?” 10:44:06 AM 5/06/08 “are you serious? This is a joke right?” 10:46:43 AM 5/06/08 “Rumor has it that a couple of unnamed female TT'ers have taken naked ape up on his offer, and are going to unleash them in Hyway's tent... but don't tell anyone... 'fool” 10:56:14 AM 5/06/08 “Ha ha !! mitsu: three bishi: water chestnut(rhombus, hence, "three diamonds") last edited: 5/06/08 11:02:11 AM” 10:56:25 AM 5/06/08 “LOL stratus, nah, ain't no joke. Y'ant some?” 10:59:38 AM 5/06/08 “Got any desert rats, Ape?” 11:03:07 AM 5/06/08 “My second grader took some to her class as class pets. Nig if you've got hissing roaches in your sunless regions, there WILL be a problem with Mrs. Nigal, no doubt!” 11:05:27 AM 5/06/08 “I heard they're a little gamey unless you parboil them first. The roaches, not Nigal's crabs.” 11:09:42 AM 5/06/08 “Hehe, huh-uh MarkO, don't have any of them, sorry. But 2 Christmases ago Santa brought us a baby hairless rat. But last month we found him another loving home. It is totally crazy how smart rats are, I'da never thawt! Don't git one as a pet tho.” 11:10:32 AM 5/06/08 “Sow bugs and pill bugs are both crustaceans, but they are not the same. The pillbug is a "rolly polly".” 12:03:40 PM 5/06/08 “you can deep fry them and mix them up with deep fried cheese curds. wisconsin folk would never know the difference.” 1:50:56 PM 5/06/08 “Yo.............Nimblefoot! Here, try this!” 1:51:54 PM 5/06/08 “I think HPM would have something more than a "hissy fit" if I brought one of those home. Plus, I'm afraid it would become a cat snack.” 1:52:31 PM 5/06/08 “good walleye bait” 2:00:11 PM 5/06/08 .....pink crustacean??? “ ![]() One of Buffett's best!” 2:06:38 PM 5/06/08 “Chili yur purdy close, they are arthropods, broken further into Order are called Isopods (Isopods are a type of crustacean). Their correct term is sow bug. It's other more common names are pillbug and rollypolly. In WNC we call them rollypolly. If yur child saw Disney's movie called Ants, there they were called pillbugs.” 2:51:45 PM 5/06/08 “oustanding on a salt bun with a pair of hot, limp pickle slices, some ketchup and mustard... wait! that's a mcdonalds burger! same thing...” 7:38:44 PM 5/06/08 “McMaggots uses good quality, real maggots!” 7:50:22 PM 5/06/08 “We have plenty of our own, thanks :)” 8:28:30 PM 5/06/08 ““Chili yur purdy close, they are arthropods, broken further into Order are called Isopods (Isopods are a type of crustacean). A sowbug and a pillbug are NOT the same. Both are Crustaceans and although very similar, the sowbug does not roll into a ball, only the pillbug does this, thus the term "roly poly". http://www.ca.uky.edu/entomology/entfacts/ef439.asp” 4:16:02 AM 5/07/08 “I am impressed with the minutiae "you people" get caught up on. It is a BUG and is in the classification of BUG. It crawls like a BUG, looks like a BUG, makes little BUGS (althought a 4" BUG is impressive in itself). It must be a BUG. BTW, Naked ape, Good luck giving away your BUGS. (Hope you are doing well.)” 5:31:56 AM 5/07/08 “What's buggin' ya, Chili?” 6:01:17 AM 5/07/08 “If those "bugs" were to come into my house, I would set Chili loose on them with his arsenal of foam and spray until they were totally annihilated. GROSS GROSS GROSS!!!” 6:02:29 AM 5/07/08 “Creepy-crawly.................” 6:19:06 AM 5/07/08 “They are cool bugs :) we use some of our extras to feed the larger tarrantulas.” 9:19:31 AM 5/07/08 “Aiight chili, I see what yur saying. Yur right dude, altho you really are splitting a frog's a$$ hair, fer sure. LOL hello BS, look 'fard to hiking with you again when we git back home. Only like 2 months left in the desert(tear). I'll miss it. I thank I'll need more than luck to give away my hisser babies, hehehe. No takers as of yet(ape confusingly scratches his head). Spirit that's why we have these hissers, for tarantula munchies. What do you have?” 9:38:12 AM 5/07/08 “We have about 20 diffrent kinds :)” 9:47:25 AM 5/07/08 “"Bugs" only have 6 legs. Arthropods are arthropods, arachnids are arachnids. Yes, we argued about this in zoology class, and this was the breakdown the professor finally gave us.” 10:06:22 AM 5/07/08 “6 legs or 8 both are bugs. nasty little things.” 10:15:29 AM 5/07/08 “I jsut don't understand why "bugs" are nasty. They are an essential part of the web of life and perform essential duties in the world.” 10:17:00 AM 5/07/08 “Spirit what kinds of T's do you have? Me and the kids have a few Desert Tarantulas that I dug up last September for them to play with. So then we started to learn about these amazing creatures, and this past Christmas Santa brought some exotics. 4 baby Chaco Golden Knees, a baby Pinktoe (don't know which one yet), a baby Trinidad Olive, a baby Mexican Fireleg that just molted, and a full-grown Chilean Rose Hair. last edited: 5/07/08 10:48:31 AM” 10:45:43 AM 5/07/08 “well, we have a giant white knee, a mexican red rump, birdeater, coboldt blue, goody ornamental, a rosie, to name a few off the top of my head.” 10:50:18 AM 5/07/08 “Great! Them birdeaters and ornamentals ain't much fer handling, normally. Izat white knee full-grown, likes to be held? Our Chaco Golden Knees as of now will become among the 3 largest T species, but it's the only largest that's OK being held. That may soon change (3 largest species) tho. Have you seen the newest possible discovery? in Peru. Locally it's known as the chicken-eating spider. Google that, pretty neat stuff.” 11:14:42 AM 5/07/08 “I tried this over on the Free Gear thread. Lessee if I git any takers ovair.....” 10:21:31 PM 5/07/08 “Hey Naked Ape, turns out you shouldn't have mailed them. http://www.timesleader.com/news/ap?articleID=528419” 6:54:02 AM 5/15/08 “Hehe, thanx noncon, since there were no takers, guess I'm in the clear. That did get me to thankin' tho.... Our petstores here sell them for 20 bux for one, they have them shipped obviously, perhaps they have a permit for shipping all their critters. I don't know. I figured they ship them, so me too. I do know for sure that int'l borders iza whole different matter, no way I'd do that. BUT! What if I'da sent some to Florida, then they got out, and could breed in the hot, humid summers. I reckon' that could be bad..... Mebbe they'd eat all them boas' eggs too, that could be good. Perhaps. Unless they deforested the Everglades.....” 9:23:15 AM 5/15/08
