To add this thread as a favorites, you need to first login. “Two separately hosted geocaching events are being combined for supreme Summer Solstice fun!!! The first event, hosted by Accordiongal and DOC. (isn't it fun, geocachers have nicknames just like us backpackers!!), will be Saturday, June 21, but you can feel free to camp in the area Friday night, June 20. Here is a link to their event, which will feature a number of permanent (which means they can all be logged for smilies!) geocaches. As they note, a hostel/resort also is close by. Plus, there is remote camping available on the hilltop (only a 15-minute hike or so) http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=e7042795-d9d5-4372-b855-7e0047c57b00 The second event is hosted by yours truly on Sunday, June 22. Canoeing cachers will meet for coffee first. (The location listed on the event page may well change to a coffee shop with outside seating in downtown Lanesboro, as opposed to the take-out landing.) The link gives more info, including a canoe/kayak outfitter. You will go after my 4/5 rated Root of All Evil paddling geocache series. There are four total caches. You need to log the first three to get the necessary info for the final, which is TRULY EVIL!!! MOOOOOOOOOhahhahaha! (plus at least a couple other caches on the way) http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=b4358150-ff6a-4e72-b437-625e62e55537 To see all the details on the listings, you need to set up a free account (no, they don't bother you!) If interested, please sign your "will attend" on the event pages. I'd appreciate it if you'd sign up here, too. And, FYI, if you don't geocache, you can hike and bike - and paddling is always fun!!” 9:24:19 PM 5/12/08 “HELLO?!? HELLO! This event is coming up, like it or not. Really, you should like it!!! Mucho fun promised! Also, there is likely a scouting trip for this Saturday, June 7 (tying into Lanesboro's Rhubarb Fest and sneak peak of what will be a public TV documentary on Garrison Keillor's "A Prairie Home Companion" that evening. Keillor broadcast the show in Lanesboro one year ago.) Time of departure hopefully by 1 p.m. (I mean, we GOTS to do Rhubarb Fest stuff first, c'mon!!! :-) )” 6:43:46 PM 6/02/08 “You will go after my 4/5 rated Root of All Evil paddling geocache series. Looks like you are enjoying cachen' as much as ever. BTW - The footbridge cache at the McDonough park was all up on the bank - exposed and vulnerable - when I swung through there a week or so ago. It appeared that grounds maintenance has recently mown and weed ate through there. I returned the Tupperware container to the concrete ledge of the bridge pylon. We cachers gotta look out for one another, eh? last edited: 6/02/08 9:17:19 PM” 9:15:21 PM 6/02/08 “LOL, you need to get out and do more cachin'! Thanks for looking after that one. ;-) Hey folks - river and fun... river and fun... river and fun...” 9:10:37 AM 6/04/08 “I've been wondering where you were, lizs...hadn't seen a post from you in awhile...you have fun on that trip...I'm planning to be with the Red Gorge Gang on that week-end...IF my health improves!” 11:14:21 AM 6/04/08 “UPDATE AS OF JUNE 18: CANOEING PORTION OF EVENT ON SUNDAY, JUNE 22 CANCELED DUE TO FLOODWATERS NOT RECEDING AS QUICKLY AS EXPECTED! so it goes... BUT... will definitely be there for cachin' and campin' rest of weekend, as noted in trip description.” 8:32:04 AM 6/18/08 << back to Caffeine-Cachin'-Campin'-Canoein' page
