Corn has silk! But the socks are prolly made from husk fibers.

Factoid:
An ear of corn has one silk strand for each kernel.

Do the cornworms come with the socks?

Hey treebait, what's the real name for those worms?

My wife has some socks with bamboo fibers. She loves them and wishes she could find more. But they don't seem to be a big hit on the brick and mortar retail scene.

I got a couple pair of bamboo blend socks free with my last pair of trail runners. From a small shoe store right here in the Pennsylvania Wilds. I really like them.

We are not traveling to Ackley's simply for some socks. The cost of gas would send those socks sky high.... Anyway, we might meet someone we know... and we couldn't risk that. hehehehe

Ackley's??? I avoid "the valley" as much as possible any more. Same reason. I'm talking Lock Haven.

I would think you can hunt Vegans wearing most any kind of boot.

Also, Salomon's adventure series running shoes are all vegan as I checked with Salomon many years ago. I like them very much.

“I don't mean to sound sarcastic but this sort of sounds like playing with the devil...

You want to 'save' a cow that is going to be butchered anyway but you are willing to spew more hydrocarbon junk into the environment from the refining of the oil and creation of the plastics used to make your boots...which affects the entire planet

interesting concept...to each their own, good luck with your search.â€

well, mr. sticks, you'd be avoiding the cost production of raising millions of cattle (fuel, fuel to raise food, food, labor, fuel to purchase food for the laborers, permanent shelter, AND cows beside popular belief, cannot be recycled. and that's a lot of commas so you know it's true) Also, because of our dependence on BEEF, the amount of cattle today account for 28% of the worlds methane emissions, by belching (totally nuts right: http://www.ecoworld.com/blog/editor/muhawi/2008/09/05/cow-burps-problematic/

or google it.)

this is the short of what goes in aside from emotional strains. once cattle use a plot of land. food cannot be grown efficiently there for many, many years.

or...

you can by recycled material shoes, or (as i don't really care) hawk a pair of shoes ebay, or go to your thrift store. yup, they all have them, and you aren't supporting the thrift store to go out and tell companies to make more shoes because they need some more two dollar boots.

as for scorchfire

if you need NEW boots,
here's a good place to start (get the women's size equivalent, my partner did it, it worked.

I hate to see this thread gone. I was looking forward to the uproar it would cause.

I'm a vegetarian and don't like the buy leather, but I'm glad I didn't struggle too long on trying to find good vegan boots. I've heard bad things. I'm happy with my new kicks.

EDIT: Boy am I a moron! I had my settings wrong.

For me it's a balance between outcome vs. time/money/effort. I generally find many "green" alternatives to be lower in quality and function than traditional products.

And I simply like leather.

a leather boot is a by-product of a vegan, we are what we eat.

non-leather boots
Modern synthetic clothing is often made of recycled material that would otherwise end up in landfills. Don't assume it's worse for the environment than the processing of skins or the production of livestock. Those criticizing are likely carrying synthetic backpacks, synthetic sleeping bags, synthetic sleeping mats, synthetic tents or tarps, plastic compass or gps, and if winter backpackers, you're probably wearing synthetic clothing to keep you from being wet and miserable. There are many non-leather hiking shoes, trail runners, and lighter-weight boots on the market these days if you shop around. I know this is an old post. Hope you found the boots you were looking for.

Yogi, some of it is and the manufactures make sure they include that fact on the label as "going green" is currently good marketing.

merino wool is a way better base layer than anything synthetic. same is true for socks, hats, mittens, etc. the best quality synthetic is only about as good as the worst quality down in terms of insulation, weight and durability. no doubt there are applications where synthetics excel (tarps, backpacks, trail runners, etc), but in general it's hard to beat mother nature.

... and while i recognize that there are a few recycled products out there, i still dispute that "often" modern synthetic clothing is made of recycled material. in my experience very few products are made from recycled material and they are marketed to a very niche audience. i would claim that most modern synthetic clothing is made from new (not recycled) material.
