I think so, although my cousin and his wife stopped there last fall and they said the food was terrible. I think the place has new owners. It had been for sale.

I've been to the Noonmark twice since the new owners acquired it. I'm not going back.

That's just sad. I had a couple of memorable breakfasts in the old rendition. Stacks of buckwheat pancakes smothered in real maple syrup, tasty sausages, eggs, orange juice, all the coffee you could drink. As I recall it was an AYCE meal, which was a bonanza for hungry hikers fresh off a week of lugging a pack around the Daks.

Maybe that's why they went out of business.

Dang Geo...that post just gave me a huge craving for Sweet Sue's pancakes in Phoenicia, NY.

They actually didn't go under, just sold the business. Pretty much every business is for sale in the park.

When it went up the asking price was $1million. I'm not sure if that was what they got though.

The neat thing about pancakes LMG is that you can make 'em yourself. You can even buy real maple syrup and there are passable sausage products just about everywhere.

So if Baxter Peak is "Katahdin" and Mt. McKinley is "Denali" then why isn't Mt. Marcy referred to again as "Tahawus"?

Because it wasn't called Tahawus until after it was already named Marcy. The name Tahawus came about around the time of "The Last of the Mohicans" (late 1800s) when it became popular to call things but the "Indian" name.

Okay, let me see if I can dig more info out of my failing memory...

A buttkicker trip in summer 2003 (or 2004?, camped at...John's Brook maybe? (parked at the garden)

I don't remember the year but that time we camped across from the Ore Bed Lean-to. Ore something like that.

I hiked Marcy about 14 years ago...It was 7.4 miles from the Loj and it really wasn't that bad as far as adk peaks go. The ascent is fairly gradual with the last quarter mile being open rock face. The weather on top was what I call horizontal rain. In other words it was raining sideways. But I do remember that although it was almost 15 miles roundtrip, it wasn't as bad as some hikes I've done. And that was my first 46'r so you've gotta take that into account.

I also hiked Marcy about 14 years ago.
From L. Colden up over Mt. Colden.
Then up past L. Tear of the Clouds to the col.
Drop packs and sprint up Skylight.
Back down, grab packs and up Marcy

Most fun was climbing Wallface up from Indian Pass
