Its all about controlling the trillions of dollars that you and I have. MORE REVENUE MORE REVENUE MORE REVENUE MORE REVENUE MORE REVENUE MORE REVENUE MORE REVENUE MORE REVENUE MORE REVENUE MORE REVENUE

F less taxes how about none! The government is on a continual hell bent mision for more money for the good its citizens

We are delighted that justice has been served. The Bigger Better Bottle Bill can now move forward with its promise of making our communities cleaner and healthier, creating new green jobs, and generating new revenue for New York."

I don’t think Ed noticed that the supposed link to the CBO report was actually a link to a pdf where the report is spun to the advantage of a health insurance sales assoc. (AHIA). Just to be clear, like any other industry assoc., it exists solely to protect the interests of its members….. in this case those who sell health insurance.

I mean what gets me is why continually go to the UK system, which is and never will be anything like the US model.

Why not go to, say, the French model, or the German model, which offers universal insurance. Still many times more public controlled than the US system, but certainly a closer model than the NHS in the UK.

Could it be because the French system is rated the best in the world?

Or perhaps a bunch of internet bloggers would have to rely on a realistic analysis of the system so they couldn't just google though the British press to find the news stories that portray the UK system in the worse possible light.

Perhaps because they are not interested in finding out what works and what doesn't in alternative systems, but instead they are just interested in defeating reform at any cost.

I've made it very clear to my representative what I expect out of this bill and that I won't vote for them again if they vote for a bill that does not contain, at a minimum, a real public option.

Well I am sure that your rep has contacted his whole staff to make sure everyone is on the same page so they go the way Mr. Violin has instructed. I mean, the last thing they would want is lose YOUR vote.

Weren't most of you obama lovers appalled - APPALLED - at Bush's "imperialism" around the world?

I predict this will be ignored by the liberals, thus exposing more hypocrisy:

'Colombia-US base accord reached'

Colombia says it has completed talks with Washington on allowing US troops to use seven of its military bases.

Mutt - well either you memory is playing tricks on you or you are FOS. There was huge support for military action post 9/11. I think Bush's approval rating went through the roof as the nation united. Doesn't really fit with this liberal 'moaning and gnashing of teeth' does it.

It's when that moved onto the unnecessary blunder of the highest order in invading Iraq that the problems begin.

Why don't you hit google and see if you can find the mass liberal protest at the opening of the base in Uzbekistan, or perhaps the expansion of activity around Diego Garcia.

Obviously, Iraq was a mixed bag with both positive and negative outcomes, the final judgment on which won't be available to the rational minded for quite some time. For you to summarily dismiss it as complete failure, and moreover having done so almost before it started, shows you're an emotional thinker, swayed by personality, whether it be from the MSM, blogosphere, or a particular silver tongued huckster from Chicago.

Good subject change there.

But anyway. It's a failure because ANY successes seen in Iraq now will still leave us in a strategically weaker position in the region and internationally than if we hadn't invaded in the first place. That's in terms of overall national interest and in terms of military.

Good subject change there.

You brought it up

It's a failure because ANY successes seen in Iraq now will still leave us in a strategically weaker position in the region and internationally than if we hadn't invaded in the first place.

LOL - tell that to Iran and Syria. Basically you're saying "I don't care how successful it is, it's still a failure!", and I'm supposed to take you seriously? First try to explain how we're "strategically weaker".
Mutt
9:23:17 AM
8/17/09

No Mutt. You're supposed to come up with some examples of how our strategic interest has either been advanced by the invasion of Iraq or could possibly have been advanced by one of your fantasy scenarios of the future.

And whay exactly do you think is going on in Syria and Iran

What I'm saying is that the best possible outcome now leaves us still behind where we would have been had we not invaded in the first place.

I guess you can't accept that though, because you always think that military action is the only way - your views are a perfect example of why things ended up a failure.

You're the one who brought it up! You made the assertion that Iraq was a blunder and that now we're strategically weaker. Now it's time for you to either back it up or ignore it in a tacit admission of ignorance.

because you always think that military action is the only way

Now you're making stuff up, no doubt based on the emotional cartoonish characterization you have of me which can't be much different than you have for whatever generalized "right wing extremist" fabrication you hold in such fear.

Much of the time the (real) threat of military power is quite sufficient; the global economy owes its existence to the US Navy, for example. So yes, military power is a necessity, that is a fact; shooting wars, not so much.
