Fox River pathway is a trail I want to give a try. So maybe this will work out for me to go. Im not sure yet though I will have to see if it ends uo falling on a weekend I work, but it would be cool.

I'm down as a lock and hope everything works out come October, and I'll be able to make it.

I don't know how many times I've driven past Seney and thought about hiking the Fox River Pathway.

Another plus for us downstate Michigan and Ohio people is it will be a shorter drive than the Traps would have been.

Yep.

You guys be prepared for some crazy lumpy hiking and some lumbering of the area. It's still beautiful, and remote, but quite a bit of the trail goes through stump museums and recently lumbered areas. It's a cool hike. I'm going to have to dig up our maps.

I have to work that first weekend in October, but I should be able to find a replacement in plenty of time.

Lets hope the coyotes don't crowd around Spirit Coyotes tent and howl like they did last year.

I will drive over from my cabin again, and make it available to participants who want to spend the night the day before the trip begins.

You know I'll probably take advantage of your offer, Pros...I'm still not sure how I'll be able to join up with the hikers...maybe only at the beginning and the end...I'll worry about that later...if it's supposed to be, it'll work out...

Mata, there are quite a few road crossings and camp grounds off of the trail.

Nonconformists, my cabin is four miles south of Drummond, Wisconsin, as the crow flies. If you want to stop by the night before the hike begins, I will send you exact directions by email.

LOL, no thanks---I only live an hour from the trail! I thought your cabin might be near us here in MQT. We'd be happy to offer up our place for any travelers as well. (I'll know for sure the closer we get to the hike.)

The short story which Hemingway wrote about this area is in a collection of short stories called The Finca Vigia Edition.

lol!

that's the climber in me creeping into my backpacking world. lol!

good beta... good information to help you plan from people that have been there before. in climbing it's makes things easier. climbing a line for the first time clean with no beta is a lot harder (in some cases) then climbing it with beta and a few prior attempts.

In Our Time - Ernest Hemingway

Snag a copy and read it before this trip. This is a collection of short stories and if you have done little or no reading of his works this is a great place to start.

YogiSans is better than Carl Sagan around the campfire. On one trip, YogiSans spent a good time telling us how the elements were formed in stars after the big bang. He did his graduate work in astrophysics, while I specialized in another type of big bang in college.

Just wondering if this hike can also be staged as a 3 day hike for those that may want to do it as a 3 day hike instead of a 4 day hike?
I'm not sure yet if I can swing the trip as a 4 day hike or not?

i made it a 4 day hike because many of us have long drives to and from the trailhead.

Yep sorry, I realize this and I'm not trying to change your trip, but just inquiring early as to see if any others may want to do a shortened version. In other words, start the hike with everyone but possibly finish Sunday at Kingston lake, rather than at Pictured Rocks?

Sounds like a beautiful place to hike. Might be interested if there is room for people with a little less experience. :-)

You will be right at home pinkbubelz. If you have been reading our trip reports, you will see all those "experienced" people make some of the simplest mistakes. Thats why we hike in groups, to have our companions save us.

You would be welcomed and encouraged. I will be working out some details in the months to come but my goal is to make this a leisurely backpacking trip and not a sporting event... I like both types of trips but I am hoping this should be a pretty laid back few days of hiking full of great scenery, good friends, and great food.

I have always felt that being experienced doesn't mean you don't make mistakes. It means you made a lot of them and were humble enough to learn from the experience.
Yogisan

I am very inexperienced as of late. No hiking for me for the past 2 years!
Wounded Knee

Being experienced doesn't mean that bad planning resulted in running out of water. It means that you tell everyone that you were testing your ability to see how long you could go without water.

Being experienced doesn't mean you don't get lost. It means you tell everyone that you were bushwhacking and exploring off trail.

Being experienced doesn't mean you sometime forget important items like stove fuel. It means you tell everyone you wanted to practice your campfire cooking.
