That sucks, Hope they find them safe. The fact that both are missing doesn't bode well. Hopefully they are just lost.

You'd think with no tree cover to deal with a helo search would have found them fairly quickly.

That terrain is very rugged, and very very large - the immensity of the Denali area is difficult to fathom. If they dug into a snow cave or sheltered under trees/scrub, they'd be difficult to spot from the air.

Temperatures have been mostly typical of the season, with daytime highs in the 60s and nighttime lows in the 40s.

the weather there this time of year can be deceiving...people think it feels or seems warmer than it is...hope they were prepared

At least they ain't been 'et by bears. That would have been apparent. Maybe they just wanted to disappear. Who knows?

The thought that they don't want to be found kinda crossed my mind too.

They have been found alive and well.

Dry Creek was a good hoof from where they started out. It will be interesting to see what their story was.

"When Erica Nelson and Abby Flantz lost their way during an overnight hike into Denali National Park, they decided to keep hiking."

Mistake number one!

Definitely not the place to keep walking.

Based on the topo maps, they must have crossed about a half dozen or more ridges from where they started to where they ended up. Common sense should have dictated that the course they chose was wrong. Obviously no trip preparation with topo maps and no navigational skills. That's a recipe for exactly what happened.

Or worse.

Why do people do that?

5 miles from the highway and they had a cell phone.

Something just isn't right about this saga.

People are basically dumber than dirt.

They apparently had no idea where they were. They had wandered out of the area where they set out to camp.

The other strange thing is that planes and helos searched the area for several days and they did nothing to attract attention from the air.

Just totally unprepared. Not a clue. They'd have gotten lost in the Pine Barrens of New Jersey, or for that matter Gateway NP on Sandy Hook where you can see NYC even on hazy days.

But how can you "hug a tree" if there aren't any trees to hug.

BTW, did anyone notice that they were located when they made a cell. call? CBC Radio was talking about that this morning and how states like Israel and China use the technology.
