Dog Friendly Hike / Camp
Hello all,

I'm looking for a moderate difficulty hike in NH / MA / VT which is dog friendly. We'd like to camp overnight and then make our way back down the next day.

Any suggestions?

What does that mean? Sorry, I'm new here (1st post). If I've placed my post in the wrong area I apologize - if you're referring to the fact that people will be upset that I want to hike with my dog, that is ridiculous.

Please don't respond if you're not going to offer a helpful suggestion.
Thanks.

please ignore bert. he is a former (troll)person that likes to stir things up.

he is just saying that because you plan on taking your dog hiking, that it will make people angry.

ignore them.

I wish I could help you on the hikes.
Perhaps pedexing will offer some help. He hikes in that area with and with out his dog (at least I think so)

well anyway, good luck and welcome to trail talk

PS - you are not new here.

PPS - I love dogs. (no, not that way)

PPPS - "Dutchess" is a current troll that purposefully (and has admitted on this and another site) that she tries to stir things up and get kicked off.

PPPPS - I'll say whatever I want. Don't dictate to me what I can and cannot say artanis. There is an "ignore this user" feature which you might find useful. Please use it liberally.

PPPPPS - Those are all helpful suggestions and comments.

Fenway (yes we're huge Red Sox fans!) is a 2 1/2 yr old mutt rescued from Puerto Rico. She honestly looks just like a Dingo!

She's about 40 lbs, very athletic, friendly and obedient. We take her on short hikes after work and on the weekends and she loves it!

mapleleaf is the "positive voice" of trailtalk ... LOL (isn't that what Elise emailed you after you cried to her about how much this site means to you? She said that you're supposed to try to be the positive voice of trailtalk?)

But then she calls me names on this thread, when she wasn't even addressed by me whatsoever. How positive is that?

Hence the name TrollTalk.

When "Bert" comes back as something else, will it be called "the after-Bert"?

Dogs are allowed in most of New Hampshire and Vermont for hikes so there are lots of choices. Do plan on staying in a tent or under a tarp (not in a shelter). Sometimes dogs are fine in shelters, but you definitely can't count on it.

One good one for starting a dog off on backpacking would be to hike Sandwich mountain. The trailhead is off Rt. 49 (take the Campton exit from I-93). Most of the trip can be a loop (Drakes Brook trail and Sandwhich Mountain trail). There is a lot of flat territory on the way out where you can set up a tent well off the trail. I did this a few years back with my dog and she loved it. The trail will be easy on your dogs paws.

Rocks on top is a backpacking site focused on New Englad with a forum for people who hike with dogs. You can find the forum at:

mapleleaf - other than that initial name-calling, I seriously must commend you (that's a good thing) on backing off afterwards. I'll follow suit for as long as it keeps up. Maybe you are going to be the new positive voice...
