I asked an old crusty guy once about his opinion on bear spray. He said that i should think of it like an insurance policy. Don't go without it, but don't rely on it. I think - with respect to grizzly bear at least - that the same thing applies to handguns.

All kidding and such aside I do think that yall are gonna have a spectacular trip. I hope you get to see a big ole bear - from a safe and unthreatening distance of course - then you can all tell us about how Fridge almost pooped his pants!!!

HAHAHAHA

just kiddin man - can't wait to hear the stories and see the pics.

Have fun y'all. It'll be a great trip. :)

I have some cousins up there. They say never to head out into the bear areas without at least a .357. I asked if it was enough to stop a grizzly and was told it would, if it was a headshot. Otherwise my cousin says,

"At least you'll have something to do with your last few seconds until the bear reaches you."

May you all see them at the best picture taking distance possible. ;)

Can't wait for the TR!

I have been there, spent 11 days, 9 on the ground. Anything can happen, but nothing did. I did not carry any spray. But I did carry a pistol. Took it everywhere. The area is really great. This time of year, the wildlife will be feeding like crazy. You might even be fishing right near to grizz.

i found the thing youre talking about online. much cheaper. i'll call around tomorrow and see who has it

a couple of items came by UPS today: Scent Killer by Wildlife Research Center in laundry detergent and spray bottle form. everything that i'm going to sleep in will be treated with this stuff, either in the washing machine, or sprayed on. the emphasis for this stuff is to get out the human odors, but my understanding is it gets out food odors too

need to permethrin treat my hiking clothes soon, too
