Planning
The planning stage has started on this years footballpalooza.

First one was in '02 and the saga continues. I will post a trip for the weekend of this trip (always the third weekend in October). However, we are open for location suggestions.

In the past, we have made a four day backpack trip out of it. This year, the plan is to either (A) base camp or (B) have a three day hike with the last day of the hike to be walking into a campsite where we can listen to the football games, drink beer and talk trash.

Proposed sites are Big South Fork, Cumberland Gap, Savage Gulf, or somewhere on the AT between Davenport Gap and Damascus.

Thoughts? Interest?

how about a basecamp up on North Fork Mtn?

I hadn't thought of West Va, but it is a possibility.

If we can find out who is interested, my thought was to set the "site" as close to geographical center as possible.

LBL is not out of the question.

They play football in WV?

Cohutta or Big Frog also come to mind.

Big Frog Mountain would be a great place. I guess it will depend on how many of the Little Ten Conference folks want to show up and whine because the SEC is so much better than their conference.

we are interested, but it depends on where

Mt Rogers is easy enough for people coming down from PA.

There might be someone whose team just won the Orange Bowl that wants to join in. This football fan regrets that he has been missing so many of these gatherings. However, when he did show up, he was laughed at for waving the wheat. Anyway, I'm always a fan of base camp and exploration.

Even a blind hog can root up an acorn every now and then. Kansas has a great year......for the first time in 108 years.

But, I have to admit....hearing "rock chalk jayhawk" is much more impressive than just seeing it in a post.

Cocoa Williams is adding to the family in early Oct, so he'll be out.

I take it he will be in the final phase of adding to the family....not the initial phase of the event.

Evidently, we just need to mention football and Dunadan shows up.

If we mention beer maybe Nigal will show up.

I try to go to one national eng meeting a year. Most are in the spring. The ones in the fall are in St. Louis, Cleveland, or Montreal. Guess which one I'm interested in?

I'd drink a beer with BB for sure.

Montreal in late Oct though? It seems that if you were going to pick a location that far north that you'd at least time it with leaf season. I mentioned this to my wife a while back and we haven't really talked anymore about it. I have to balance our overnight babysitting options too. We're using up some of that time for the office retreat in Aug. I plan those things and shockingly, for the 2nd year in a row it's outdoors related.

That probably is around the tail end of leaf season for Montreal. Gremlin would know better than me, but most of the city is only about 200' above sea level.

I'm actually skipping out on going to Montreal for a conference around then. I can't afford to loose a weeks pay or use half of my vacation time to go.

I would guess Camp Roosevelt of the GW National Forest inside the folds of Massanutten Mountain is about halfway. It's northeast of Harrisonburg, Va., and west of Shenandoah National Park. There is a modest campground there.

Just bring beer. After those punk teams from the places like Ohio and Illinois get there @sses handed to them on the field, you might want something to make the pain go away.
