Any tentative trip plans or areas of interest? If the weekend stays the same and nothing else comes up, I should be able to make this trip.

If anyone is coming through Chattanooga and wants to car pool let me know.

Most people just think of Sipsey as Bee Branch and above. If the blow downs ever get cleaned up, we might actually get to see more if it.

And that won't happen except on trails. THey had some Montana firemen in doing maintenance a couple years back.

Doug Phillips: http://www.discoveringalabama.org/ spoke at our local library a year or so ago. I asked about all the downfall and forest fires. He was involved with the original Wilderness designation. He said that a forest fire was a natural event and would thus be part of the experiment too. While that is valid, it would be damn sad.

Yeah, one of Dayhiker's trips was at F.C. Falls a few years ago. That's where his son got drunk. . . Dayhiker's got pictures to prove it ;)

There's also what I think is a cool place about a mile / mile and a half up the Sips from FC. It's a pretty deep & steep gully with a over head hanging cave. The cave's big enough to put two or three tents into and hang out in. Down below the cave, you there's still space for more tents, and if you work around to stand aside the water source, you could put yet more tents up there -- or, just put 'em all up there.

question, you don't question it. You just pack your $h!t in her pack, and her light stuff in yours, and tell her you have to move to the campsite on the other side.

JUST DO IT!

Is this trip a true bushwhack?
If the date changes, I will plan on going. We're going to Ft Wayne for family thing the weekend of the 26th.

285 miles - not bad. Almost a straight shot down I-65. Looking forward to hiking in Alabama.

It varies from year to year as to how much actual "bushwhacking" is involved but typically it'll be a relatively short hike into a specific area that'll support a group of this size for a basecamp and then off trail exploration of the area over the course of the weekend. Last year, I think we may have put in 3-4 miles whereas a couple of years ago on dayhiker's spring trip, we did around 8-9 up Parker Branch from Quillan and back. How much you want to do is up to you...some folks never really leave the campsite and take the opportunity to just relax. I'll have a general plan that the group can do but it's always open for revision...

stomper, you did the kentucky trip a little while back, and, to compare, you can do sipsey too. It's not anymore strenuous than CB's trip, and probably much less so.

Toph's selections are fun and suit everyone, even a gojo dog or two.

I can't claim coming up with "Fultanic". I got that from another disgruntled Vol fan. I do claim rights to the upside down power "T" being the international sign of a Vol fan in distress.

Basketball is only 3 short months away.

Sure enough as soon as I say "not likely", a potential reason to move the date comes up on the homefront.

Would moving it to 11/7 prevent anyone currently signed up from coming?
