“It's time to get serious about planning my trip to Dusy Basin. Anybody want to come with? I have a permit for 4 :)” 5:55:24 AM 6/26/08 “i'm still a maybe. i need to get on the stick and see how much it would cost to change my flight plan” 6:40:57 AM 6/26/08 “start hiking on the 18th, and hike out on the 23rd, correct?” 6:44:32 AM 6/26/08 “August 23 is my 40th High School Reunion...and I am on the committee!! I've been over Bishop Pass twice. Beautiful hike from South Lake to Bishop Pass. If you don't want a butt-kicker first day, camp at the last lake before your climb over the pass. About 4 or 5 miles. Very nice. Then go over the pass early and you are in Dusy Basin. I stayed on the trail and hiked down to the JMT/PCT...quite an elevation drop. But beautiful hiking in either direction. I think your best options are going to be cross country. Cubfan proposed a similar hike on TT a few years ago. Cut over to the Palisades. The "High Route" would be helpful to study. Good luck!” 4:11:12 PM 6/26/08 “hey i dont mean to make you feel old, phil, but this year is only my 20th reunion :-D” 4:49:26 PM 6/26/08 “Yup, 18-23rd. We could hike out a day earlier if needed.” 1:17:50 PM 6/27/08 “Having an easier first day sounds good to me, I'll be acclimating to higher elevations.” 1:19:58 PM 6/27/08 “if i go, i'll be well acclimated, having just come off a week-long peak-bagging trip in colorado. just strap your pack onto the back of mine and i'll carry them both up” 8:28:44 AM 6/28/08 “crash bang - I doubt you can make me feel older than I already feel! I got past feeling old on my 40th birthday!! LOL Sad thing about planning the 40th reunion is all the people who have died and those that are sick from strokes, cancer, and diabetes.” 5:34:22 PM 6/29/08 “lol, thanks, but I think I'll be okay with the pack! I'm doing a 3-day trip at those elevations in a couple of weeks so I'm building up to this longer trip...” 4:59:21 AM 7/04/08 “Bueller?” 1:04:53 PM 7/09/08 “I was planning on doing a similar trip around this time in about the same area, but I'd love to go with some people I've never met before. So I am very interested.” 10:10:21 PM 7/12/08 “ps Im going on a two week long Yosemite trek in a few days so I may be difficult to get a hold of starting thursday, but I'll definitely have computer access by august fifth.” 10:14:12 PM 7/12/08 “Rocco, it's always fun to meet other hikers. What was your trip itinerary?” 12:28:07 PM 7/13/08 “Oh that trip got umm canceled with the bailing out of the people who I was going with a few months ago. But it was going to be mainly focusing on going to Le Conte Canyon, and doing some bouldering in that area.” 2:56:42 PM 7/13/08 Changed the dates “My friend Cris (justdropin') told me if I tweaked the dates a bit he'd be able to come with me. Since I had no one else confirmed I went ahead and did it so I wouldn't have to hike alone. So the dates for this trip are now August 25-30. I still have room for two more people on the permit. Let me know if you want to come!” 10:53:26 AM 7/17/08 “i'm still a maybe” 2:43:40 PM 7/17/08 “ehh can't make it now. Have to be in Jersey on the 29th.” 4:43:26 PM 7/17/08 “If I start my new job a week later....” 7:22:33 PM 7/17/08 “The tentative plan now is to go to Ruwau Lake the first night, then over to Dusy Basin for a night or two, then cross-country over Knapsack Pass into Palisade Basin for a night or two, then back home!” 8:03:06 AM 7/29/08 “Okay, here's my refined plan for the trip... Drive up to Bishop on Sunday and Sunday night camp at 4 Jeffrey Campground to help get acclimated Monday Day 1 hike from South Lake TH 9,820' to Ruwau Lake 11044' in about 4 miles - if we're up to it we can also climb Chocolate Peak 11682' Tuesday Day 2 hike from Ruwau lake over Bishop Pass 11,972' and then down into Dusy Basin elevation approx 11,000', there's lots of lakes so we'll just choose one that looks good to set up camp for 1 or 2 nights, 7 miles or so this second day Wednesday Day 3 we can either dayhike over Knapsack Pass 11,800' into Palisade Basin and then come back into Dusy for the night... or we can carry our full packs and camp in Palisade Basin. Mileage will be about 4 miles one way, cross country, to get from Dusy to Palisade Basin. Thursday Day 4 head back over Bishop Pass and pick a lake, maybe Saddlerock Lake, to camp at.. Alternative if we're up to it is to cross the pass between Margaret and Treasure Lakes and camp at Treasure Lakes that night. Friday Day 5 hike out to TH” 12:26:31 PM 8/13/08 just got back “we went in at North lake over Piute Pass on to and over Selden and Silver passes with a resupply at Vermilion Valley resort and on to and out at Reds Meadow .Great trip , do you know Songbird” 8:33:41 AM 8/14/08 “BC, you can stay at the backpacker's campground at the Mosquito Flat trailhead with a permit free of charge. It is on a first come first claimed basis but has quite a bit of room.” 10:49:26 AM 8/14/08 “Yes, I have hiked with Songbyrd a couple of times” 10:52:45 AM 8/14/08 “Is that at Rock Creek? Little further for me to drive and then have to drive back...” 10:53:58 AM 8/14/08 “I'm sorry. I lost my head. Wrong trail head.” 3:31:36 PM 8/14/08 << back to Dusy and Palisade Basins page
