“I am carcamping at my local national forest. I dont backpack much this time of the year due to the bugs and heat. I will do some early morning hikes and just enjoy the rest of the day.”

“Leaving for a Hut to Hut trip in the Whites with my 12yr old daughter for a week...”

“Zealand, Galehead, Greenleaf.....gonna ease her into the Whites....although this route is mostly UP! I'm starting her on the 4K peak bagging list...so if memory serves right, Zealand will be first on the list.....she's excited! And so am I....for her....”

“I did that exact same route a few years ago with a group of teens...it was a great trip and they really enjoyed it. The falls at Zealand were a huge hit. :) Our last night at Greenleaf, the croo did a raid on Galehead. They left in the evening and didn't come back until 7am the next morning while we were eating breakfast. You could see them coming down off of Lafayette w/huge yellow road signs. The kids LOVED it. hell...so did the adults!

“4th of july is a big holiday in our household. lots of beach activitiesm and a bbq in the afternoon and flag jello after the fireworks. then on the 5th is the hubbies bday, so we will have a shrimp boil on saturday. can't wait. i took in a picture from the 1920's of his grandfather in a group shot of his squad with the detroit police dept. its a suprise! he's been wanting to get it framed to hang in his office.”

I'll be exploring the San Juan Mountains. I believe night one will place us in Ouray to take advantage of a little night time soak in the hot springs.

Have you been to Ouray before? It is one of my favorite places in the US. Be sure to see the fireworks in Silverton on the 4th. They put on a GREAT show!”

“We're grilling fish, veggies and whatever else we feel like at our neighbor's house for the fourth. I'm going to ask them if we can invite one of our other neighbors over for it too. Her husband and both sons are all currently serving in Iraq or Afghanistan. Yikes. She keeps herself very busy with gardening; she's won her neighborhood's "most beautiful yard" award 3 times just since we moved here.”
