Looking for trip opportunities
Hope I am doing this right. I am new to this site...just moved to North Carolina from Arkansas. I have started updating my equipment and would appreciate information on any trips. I now live in the Piedmont Triad area.

Looking for trip opportunities
Hello Nurse Goodbody....I live in Greensboro. It has been awhile for me on hitting the trails. Did not know how old some of my gear was compared to new standards. I have already hiked in the Hanging Rock area on some day hikes. I know as beautiful as this area is there has to be some regular hiking trips going on.

I lived in Winston Salem for 20 years before moving to TN.

Just go to the trips page, there is always something going on. Mt Rogers wouldn't be too far for you. As far as day hikes, Pilot Mountain is a nice place. I have Pisgah on my list of places to explore. Then there is always the Blue Ridge Parkway.

I am going over towards Boone this weekend to look at the Linville area. May do some day hikes. I have friends coming from Canada this Fall who are going to want to do something of a long weekender.

So far I have not been disappointed in all the great scenery of North Carolina....heading to the Beach for Hatteras in two weeks then up to Virginia.

The beach is nice. I went to Bald Head island several years ago for a wedding. It was October, very windy but a really cool place. Virginia in the fall and winter is beautiful.

i lived in GSO for a few years - liked it very well. Mt Rogers in VA is close enough for weekends - the Smokies aren't too far if you don't mind a late arrival on Friday night after work. I also backpacked in the Uwharrie area a couple of times - not as nice as the Smokies, but not bad for a quick getaway.

I have hiked Uwharrie more times than I can count. There's not a lot there, but it is in the woods and it gives me a chance to get away from time to time.

Go north, go west and points between. Many places to hike within a few hours. Besides above there are the South Mts, Wilson Cr, Sauratown trail, Uwharrie trail; Rogers, Kelly Knob, Carvins Cove, James River Face (last 4 are AT), etc, etc..........Too many places to name. Enjoy

Mke sure you sign up for the annual January TT trip to Linville Gorge. I went this past year and even though it was cold, hit 4*F Sunday morning, I had a blast.

Join me on a spur of moment trip in winter. Snow, -5, with -25 windchill on Grandfather the weekend of the Linville hike. My temp sensor on my car froze up and I broke my leg 3 days later. You'll have fun...........TRUST ME.

I just drove today from Frisco (Outer Banks), NC 475 miles to here in the foothills (westbound).

Its the Sunday after the week of July 4th. and eastbound Interstate 40 was bumper to bumper from the I-77 intersection west to Asheville with all the folks returning to the Piedmint from the mountains.

What gas shortage?

Any chance that someone could plan a trip to Linville in the fall? There is no way I can go in January.

I can move Footballpalooza to Linville and Dave can make it. We can base camp with dayhikes.

I STILL haven't been to Linville, dangit!

Guess I'll have to plan a day trip some time soon.

I-40 becomes a parking lot very easily.

I-40 won't have a traffic problem in downtown Knoxville for a while because it is closed.

Traffic through Knoxville is via 640 or 175.

TB, if you have ever been through downtown Knoxville on I-40, you will probably remember the "S" curve right at downtown. It was a friggin engineering snafu. Essentially they are straightening and widening the interstate there and making the exits to James White Parkway and Hall of Fame Drive much more user friendly.

As to Linville, I am going to set Footballpalooza there. As soon as I get some time to do a recon and talk to Spam when he gets home, I will post the details.

Footballpalooza is already on the trip page. My idea will to make it akin to the Mothers Day gig.....just with a lot of trash talk about football, lol.
