Cross Country Backpacking near Portland

“I'm looking for advice from anyone who has been backpacking within a hour drive of Portland, OR. I'm looking for solitude and lots of climbing. I'm experience backpacker and I'm comfortable with cross country hiking if its possible (ie not to much over growth or too dense). Currently I'm looking into SalmonHuckleberry Wilderness and Mt Hood Wilderness. I would appericate any advice.
