“MikeP I am heading to the Flattops in a couple of weeks for a weeklong stay. Any must see recommendations not mentioned in your trip report from 07. I am planning on going up the White River from the south and basecamping in the vicinity of Big Marvine peak.I will dayhike from there. HBH” 11:33:46 AM 8/05/08 “hmmmm, let me take a look at my maps and give it some thought - thats a great area, anywhere you go will be good.” 1:51:42 PM 8/05/08 “It has to be cooler than 105 degF so it will be good:) I have no agenda other than getting there so any input will be welcome.” 2:40:17 PM 8/05/08 “Marvine Lakes will be close. I think if I were to plan a trip back to Flattops, I'd do the South Fork Trail and make a loop of it starting from the west and follow South Fork back to the east to Budges Resort and then work North to Oyster Lake and then loop back. With a week to kill that'd be totally doable. The Chinese Wall Trail would be worth taking a look at too. You'll have a good trip for sure though. Lots of lakes in that area - i would think taht the southwestern portion of the area sees fewer visitors than the area I was in. The Trapper Lake area is popular with lots of user groups.” 8:29:43 PM 8/05/08 “Thanks We are starting at the Meadows on the South Fork trail close to Budges Resort. Oyster Lake and Pine Isle lake are both possible camp sites. I get the impression that there is alot of horse packing on those trails from the resort. There will probably be a second trip at some point to hike on the east side. So many place so little time.” 4:40:34 AM 8/06/08
