“what have you bagged? i'll start grays torreys elbert crestone needle humboldt” 8:44:47 AM 8/18/08 “Fourteeners: for people who view backpacking as primarily a drinking/social/gear-snobbery exercise to be had while strolling comfortably along a groomed footpath while checking their cell-phone for signal stength. They climb 14ers for the social scene and the bragging rights. Real enthusiasts climb 13ers as an activity to enjoy in itself. Far away from the poseurs. last edited: 8/18/08 9:01:12 AM” 8:59:23 AM 8/18/08 “It should be noted that bagging 14'ers is illegal in most states.” 9:00:14 AM 8/18/08 “mutt: one of those people who hates his life, and therefore tries to make everyone else hate theirs see also: troll, benji” 9:01:04 AM 8/18/08 “muttenhead once again show his true colors. You would have to be pretty fleet of foot to shag even one deer.” 9:45:14 AM 8/18/08 “LOL@crashbang - lighten up francis!” 10:05:51 AM 8/18/08 “Strippers named Bambi don't count.” 10:08:31 AM 8/18/08 “i had an amazing time climbing this last week in Colorado. i am already planning my return to capitol peak and the ellingwood arete. i enjoyed the walk-up peaks as much as i enjoyed the totally awesome class 2/3/4 routes i climbed. for me it's as much about the journey as it is the destination and that means the spirit of companionship that comes with climbing as part of a team... the first nights camp, the approach, the climb, the summit, the downclimb, the camp and high spirits from a successful summit bid, and the eventual hike out. it's all part of one integrated experience and there are a lot of rewards... the sense of personal achievement, the thrill of the physical exertion, spending time to build strong relationships with your climbing partners. one of the things that i noticed, and i admit this is a personal observation, is that the TT "hike your own hike" approach is totally incompatible with the way i view climbing. one of the things i have come to love about climbing is building strong relationships and establishing real trust with your climbing parthers / belayer / rope partners / etc. you can't climb as part of a three-man climbing team and "hike your own hike". in my mind if you approach climbing like this you have missed one of the major dimensions of the activitiy. last edited: 8/18/08 10:46:10 AM” 10:45:06 AM 8/18/08
