I called New River Valley Ranger District asking for information and the 2 people I spoke to had no info at all. Just saying knowone goes there and no trails and why did I want to go backpacking there?

I just hung up.

Very few people visit Kimberling Creek Wilderness, which has no parking lots and no maintained trails. In fact, save for a couple of old, long-abandoned dirt tracks there is little evidence that anyone has ever walked this land. Kimberling Creek, fed by Kimberling Springs by way of Sulphur Spring Fork, just touches the southernmost portion of the area. The Wilderness lies at its lowest elevation on the creek at 2,282 feet and rises to 3,200 feet in the northern portion on Hogback Mountain.

So jump in and get your navigating skills sharpened.

Never met someone at a FS district office who have actually been into the forest area they are assigned. I don't bother with them. Went to the Beartown last year and just went. Why call someone who has nary a clue? I'll see is I can convince my wife to let me go on another outdoor trip. I've always wanted to get in there.

Hoping to skip my sons boy scout troop trip to Fort Bragg but my wife wants me to go. I've ordered the USGS map and will get details. I really want to get back in there.

Hmmm the timeframe looks ok for me. I'd be tempted to go, but ya'll walk so darn fast that I'd be stranded in the woods, with no trail and no idea where we were goin and I'd have to try to follow your tracks from where you disturbed the leaves....and then I'd die from exposure and Tater would hunt each of you down cause you let me die. I guess I'll just stay home.

I like the trip. I just need to think if I want to drive the 6 hours. Hmmm
