Anyone pick them in Wisconsin & Michigan?
Thinkbubelz & I found lots of patches of wild blueberries on Stockton Island (Apostle Islands) this past weekend... Looks like some are getting ready to ripen in the next few weeks as well!

We also found some in the National Wildlife Preserve in Northern MIchigan as well--although once I came home, I found out that those were "huckleberries" and not blueberries. (Huckleberries have a glossier fruit, bigger seeds, but look like wild blueberries otherwise.)

I'm wondering if anyone can suggest some areas to look for blueberries in northern Michigan around the time of the 5th of September? We are thinking of heading back up close to or just over the Mackinac Bridge at that time.....

I had my best year of blueberry picking in a long time in PA. I've dried 16 trays of berries, made 1.5 quarts of jam and have so many frozen in the freezer, I can't fit anymore in there. Plus, I gave some away. I did pick some dwarf huckleberries along with the blueberries, but I didn't like the big seeds in them. The huckleberries have ten large seeds and low bush blueberries have 65 small seeds.

Mmmmmmmmmmm ... blueberries.

Pine Mountain near Mount Rogers Virginia has blueberry bushes about 6 feet high with big, half inch blueberries right about now. It's impossible to walk 1 mile an hour through that section. It's more like a quarter mile an hour.

LOL, I think I meant the National Wildlife Refuge....

Hmmm... I'm going to Pittsburgh tonight for the weekend-- any good blueberry picking places out there? We'll be going to Falling Water, too... so maybe something near there?

We didn't realize the difference between huckleberries and blueberries until we got home.....so I have about a cup of huckleberries and 2 cups of blueberries... Have then in the fridge. I hope they will keep until Sunday, when we get back-- I plan to freeze some and to bring some to my friend for waffles. :-)
