Option 2 - Mt. Leconte from NFG road area

Saturday up Alum Cave trail
Sunday back out The Boulevard to AT, hitch back to Alum cave or leave a car at NFG.

“I might be game for this trip. I was originally signed up for Fridge's Beartown Wilderness trip, but because of the gas situation, felt the need for something closer. I had another trip lined up, but our shuttle fell through, so now I am looking for a plan "C".

I did this trip a few months ago, and it was a short, but really nice loop. By reading your description, I am assuming you are staying at Icewater Springs Shelter on Friday night? Then taking the Boulevard Trail to LeConte Shelter for Saturday night, and out Alum Cave on Sunday.

Is the shelter full, or are there more spots available?”

I was planning on getting to the Trailhead around 8-9am Saturday and stay at the LeConte Shelter Saturday night, then hike out Alum cave. Depends on what time I make it to Alum cave I'll probably head over to Chimney Tops.

We've hiked the same places and with the same pple, but i don't think we've met.

“Had a great trip. I did hike up to Chimney Tops on the way back home, and it had a gorgeous view as well. I should have my pics up tonight and I will post a link here.

“How were the leaf colors in that area ?”

“They were at their peak at the higher elevations where we were, the lower elevations were colorful, but maybe a few days to a week before their peak color.”

“I'm supposed to be at Smokemont in 2 weeks. I hope the leaves can hang on until then.”

“It was so windy sunday that you'll be pushing it. Lotsa yellows, the mountain ash were full peak.

I'll have a full on classic OPIE trip report tonight or tomorrow. just got done with a 1-1 2 hour meeting with the big cheese VP”
