Oh gawd, if he trots out the, "And we're gonna stop giving money to people who don't like us very much" line again, I'm gonna wretch.

rhubarb   \'roo-barb\ n/v — Word used to describe
anywhere you didn't originally intend to be, usu. a roadside
ditch or somewhere off of a sled or wheeler trail; "He got
goin' too fast and put 'er in the rhubarb."
Occasionally,
rhubarb functions as a verb, as in "He got goin' too fast an'
rhubarbed 'er." See also: pucker-brush.

Why is Obama talking about businesses who need loans to make payroll?

What business needs a loan for payroll? They won't be in business long.

I like McCain - I don't know - he just comes across as a man who has been left behind by the world and events.

He looked old on stage, and his answers may have struck a better chord if we weren't looking at an economic meltdown.

As people want to look to the future and get some reassurance he just reeks of the past.

His political shots looked cheap, while Obama made his in context - John McCain did this... and this is why it's important.

Obama may not be perfect and may have much to learn, but when America is concerned about what lies in the future, McCain just comes across like a blast from the past.

We've heard most of his answers before and right or wrong I think most people have stopped believing them.

It's tough to run as the agent of change when you've been there for a quarter century.

And it's too bad Rove et al. did such a hatchet job on him in 2000.   I don't think the neocons could have pushed him into Iraq.

Now.....   it reminds me of Bob Dole.   By the time they got their shot, time had run out.

Obama reeks naivete. His theories on economics are flawed and unrealistic. He sees himself as Robin Hood at a time when the government supplies everything to people who won't work.

I was impressed that Obama mentioned the AIG squandering of bail out funds.
bacpac

Obama's ideas on health care are naive. Obama says he is going to cut premiums, but will force insurance companies to accept pre-existing conditions. He is creating an environment where people will wait to get sick before getting insurance.

He also talks about insurance companies screwing clients. The problem is that the opposite happens. People are screwing the insurance companies.

Tort reform will reduce insurance costs more than giving new policies to the gravely ill who never paid into the system.

I notice that none of the TV talking heads mention McCain suggesting people to check the watchdog groups to see who is telling the truth on their voting records.
This was the response to the question "Why should we believe anything either party tells us".

As for Insurance, they are a business, just like the banks and investment firms. When Obama policies require they pay out more that they take in, they will either require a bail-out or go out of business. I do not see any change there.

obama's insurance "ideas" scare me...he was talking about preexisting conditions like he was going to force insurance companies to do away with them but he didn't say how...right now they are either not covered or the insured pays more in premium...the money has to come from somewhere to cover this

the more i hear him talk, the more i disagree with him fundamentally...he talks about EVERYONE going to college, EVERYONE having a job, and EVERYONE having healthcare...that's not american, that's not capitalism, that's socialism...i thought brocaw's question about health care was good and mccains answer was exactly what i would have said...health care is a responsibility, not a right, as obama said

another thing i picked up on was obama's story about him going to college...he talked about how his mother worked two jobs, he studied hard, got scholarships, went to the best schools...i thought that was a great story...that kind of life experience builds character...then he turns around and says every child should have the opportunity to go to school which almost negates his own story...i want my doctor, lawyer, or teacher to be the one that worked his/her butt off to get into school, who was passionate and driven enough to put in the effort to get where they want to be...i don't want to one who just muddled through on a free ride from the government

We can't vote for Brokaw, he has a speech impediment. We can only vote for people who speak properly. That's the most important thing we can have in a president, from what I've read.

(BTW, Obama sure stammers a lot. Anyone else notice all the "uhs" and "ums"?)

From what I saw of the debate, it was another snoozefest. I doubt that it swayed any undecided voters.

Well My Friends.....

Mutt, that's the entire point you actually stumble across trying to insult me. People come out of these things with a feeling and an impression of the candidates. Beyond 24-hours the details of what was said fades from people's minds and you're left with the overall impression.

Thifty - you know that when a conservative administration leads the country down the path to the biggest ever move to socialism it's hard to keep trotting out the same lines as before. We're taking steps towards nationalizing banking.... Wall Street - that's how big a mess conservatives have made of things. Of course they are going to want something different. Time of crisis are when you see momentous political shifts.

It happened in 1979 in the UK and in 1980 in the USA, after a bad time in the late-1970s, and the world shifted right.

Now we're going to see a shift left - maybe it'll only last a few years, but it's likely to happen.

And I wouldn't worry too much, it won't be forever, but you're going to see a swing left in this country for a while now while. It'll swing back right in the future.

LOL, i said nothing about the economy...but naturally since you've pegged me as a "conservative" then i must buy hook line and sinker into mccain's economic plan or i must agree with what has happened in the last 8 years?...well i don't...neither candidate has impressed me with their economic plan

oh yea, and sure the president for the last 8 years has been a "conservative" but who's been in power in the house and senate?

i didn't see it as an insult either...i thought it was right on...Y2, you obviously have put a lot of thought and research into your choice and i would never fault you for it...i think mutts point is about all those people who are blindly "voting for change"...i love it when i hear an 18-23 year old talk about the election...i just think about where i and all my peers were emotionally and intellectually at that age and it's pretty scary that these people are being mobilized to vote

WE NEED MCCAIN'S DECISIVENESS!
Brokaw: Do you think that Russia under Vladimir Putin is an evil empire?

Obama: I think they've engaged in an evil behaviour and I think that it is important that we understand they're not the old Soviet Union, but they still have nationalist impulses that I think are very dangerous.

Brokaw: Senator McCain?

McCain: Maybe.

From what I saw of the debate, it was another snoozefest. I doubt that it swayed any undecided voters.

Yup. Geeze, and when CNN cut to their "sampling" of the 10% of undecideds, no one had YET made up their mind at the end of the debate. These people were saying things like, "They didn't explain anything," and , "I didn't understand..." Jeebus, it was the same crap these two guys have been shoveling for 8 freakin' months! Do you even know how to read? Hahahaha. Basically, the 10% are the idiots who just can't make a decision! Hmmm, should I press the crosswalk button or just wait and see if the light changes? Hmmm.

Oh, and about the second line outta McCain's mouth was, "And we're gonna stop giving money to people who don't like us very much." GRRROOOOAAAANNNN...

Thifty - when you use the term 'that's not capitalism, that's socialism' - it defines you. You may not like it - but that's the language of exteme conservatives. Entire entertainment networks are built on it.

When you start defining the debate in those terms, and stating that you don't like it, you put yourself firming in a political group. You may not be a diehard GOP but you certainly have a strong conservative lean going on there.

Mutt - don't talk crap. ;op

McCain came across to all but the most staunch republican or liberal hater as unprepared and condescending, and slightly angry - running off at the end there.

You may not like what he said, you were never going to, but he delivered it in a polished, professional way that said he'd done he preparation. He's becoming a better politician by the day, together with the turn of events in his favor.
