I have a steripen. Works great, just keep a short cup or something to scoop up water with unless all your water sources are either deep enough to dip your water bottle in or have a nice little waterfall to stick your water bottle under.

Should I spring for the prefilter too? Would it fit any standard waterbottle? i don't want to use nalgean anymore...too heavy, plus the dog ate em all. I'm thinking more in the lines of platys or gatorade...or would a bandana filter out the crawlies well enough?

chemical tablets and occasionally a bandana..

MSR Mini works but it is to bulky so I pretty much leave it at home..

32, I prefer tablets over water filters any day, but i'm thinking that since I almost always end up losing my watch (to time the iodine) lol that a steripen would be better for me....with iodine as a back up jsut in case something fails (or gets lost)

tablets??!!...come on, aqua mirra is tasteless...i never time it...it's 15 minutes in warm weather, 30 in cold (i think)...i can guestimate that

I don't even time it anymore.. It ha almost become a routine... Unless I am totally out of water when I get to a spring, I just fill up my bottles pop in the tablets and relax for awhile (eat or water ever) and then after awhile I throw in the 'neutralizer' tablets, wait a little and throw in the gatorade mix..

all i use is the adventurer. it doesn't work with the prefilter anyway. i have a pre-filter i made out of the top of a pop bottle... much lighter and works better. all those doo-dads are a waste of money and space.

"tables" could mean iodine -or- chlorine dioxide. aqua mira is chlorine dioxide... and the tables (which are sold by Pur and now also portable aqua) are the SAME THING just in liquid form. i carry clo2 tablets as a backup to my steripen because they work well and are VERY light... just expensive.

i will use the tablets to treat water overnight for use the next morning and then use the steripen the rest of the day. it's a good combo. light, effective. the steripen is a "i want to drink water NOW" sort of solution that some of the benifits of filters without all the clogging and setup. i personally now totally HATE water filters... terrible solution. uv water treatment has set a new standard imo.
