Kegs and tequila are necessary. I refuse to wear a dress, though.

How do you feel about CO? I can't possibly move away now.

Word up!
We were on our way back from the Penn State game (in which Indiana got spanked!) and I was planning on marking (gps)the parking spot on Munson rd when I discoverd there is no Munson rd !! Its now called Casanova rd (no joke). So anybody comming in late on friday, be aware of that. When we went up the road to where the AFT crosses, the only pull off I saw was just above the little bridge over six mile run. It had posted signs of "keep out" "private property" . It was a spot that could mabey fit 3-4 cars. Was this the spot Jmitch ?? It looked like there were areas that you could pull off to the side and park before that, but nothing like an oficial pull off for the trail.
Is there any other place that would be good to come in from on friday night ? How bout off of that Meyers run Rd from Huckleberry rd?
CrazyPace

CrazyPace, I don't think that was the spot. Jmitch said we will be starting on the eastern side of the loop, which puts us where Rattlesnake Road crosses the trail (I think). But I will leave it up to Jmitch to confirm.

Jmitch, will you be getting the group camping permit, or should we each get our own?

I received the map from the park service. This is the same map that is on the trail website. Unfortunately, there are no topo lines, which is what I was really interested in.

Casanova/Munson Road is probably best, the trail crosses the road a little east (heading towards the state park) from Sixmile Run bridge. I thought there was a place to pull off there.

CD- for backpacking, permits aren't needed as long as we aren't staying at the same site for more than 1 night.

from what I understand and crazypace can correct me... but since Pennsy hasn't camped in the cold weather for some time and there is a good possibility it will be cold or atleast fairly cool weather camping, Pennsy has stopped shaving his head so that he can be warm for this trip. This is just a rumor though. I also hear he is growing sideburns and he is growing his goatee again.
All just rumors of course.

Crazypace also said that the location of the (in)famous spring will be revealed.

LOL!! Not a bad rumor and I may act on it. The extremities are getting a tad chilly. I am most likely going on this trip, car pooling with Crazy. Lord knows the dork would never find this place on his own. Besides, a re-enactment of "In Golden Spring" may be in order.

Based on the current forecast, we could get some snow!

hmmmmmmm... should I take my super lightweight tarptent (that I have never used when it snowed) or the SD Lightyear bombproof shelter (that will pretty much hold up to anything)???????

the weight difference is like 2 lbs.

Do you know that for sure Marko, or are you just trying to make me carry more weight? :)

I use a Contrail. There is a somewhat "flat" part at the base of the footwell. I did a little research and I think I can rig this in a way that will prevent the snow from building up.

I spent this past Friday night in Black Moshannon state park. It snowed most of the day Friday with several inches of accumulation of a very light fluffy snow. The temps never got out of the low 20's Friday. Temps were in the lower teens when I woke up Saturday morning and an additional inch of snow had fallen overnight. I left the area about 8:00 AM heading over to State college and a light snow was beginning to fall as I drove away and I could see a dark band of clouds about to roll in. It was a fun drive down a snow covered 504 to Unionville. I'd say close to 5 inches of light powdery snow had fallen in the time I was there. There was considerably less snow down in State College. I don't know what the temps are supposed to be between now and this trip but I suspect at the very least you will run in to some snow covered sections of trail in the shady sections.

Thanks Spindle, I found Mo' Shannon State Park on the map.

Convince me with alluring words and perhaps the promise of booze.

I'm thinking of packing some left over turkey and stuffing as well as dinner wine, Khalua, and Crown..
