Just get a board and spray paint T.T. on it. easy peasy.

Can't wait . My whole year revolves around trail days. I'll be hiking into damascus in some form or fashion. If we don't show, come looking for us!

Whoever gets there first needs to bring the sign. Last year me and Hyway got there about 1 a.m. and searched all over the place trying to find our "gang". We finally gave up and just tented in the parking lot until the next morning.

Its real spotty and even if you can find a spot to get reception, the next time you try that spot it might not work

I've got a 55 gallon drum I'm bringing in my truck for this year. Gonna run a sprinkler pump from the engine to make a fire hose. We'll have to go fill it a couple hours before the parade and also get a good parking spot on the main drag.

may need to have a couple 5 gal buckets to refill it as needed ;)

btw, nemster, the waterfight isn't between us. Its between the thruhikers in the parade and the spectators with water guns in the crowd.

I'll bring a few blankets to defend the trucks paint as I'm sure they will try climbing up the side to try and dump it out.

put the 55 gallon drum behind the trucks, and put 2-3 cinder blocks in the bottom before you fill it up, harder to tip

Well, I may have my girls that weekend but I dont want to miss trail days either. I'm not really worried about boozing it up and partying, I can do that at home. I was just trying to get some input to see if anyone had brought theirs or had seen kids out there before.

If you aren't concerned about what they may see or hear, go for it. if you want to avoid having to explain things you may not be ready to explain, I wouldn't bring them. There is alot of drinking, smoking, cussing and basically full out debauchery...If you want to come for the day and go to the parade, that would be fun, but camping in the camping areas is not a kid friendly environment. IMO.. i wouldn't bring my kids..

Chili brought his daughter a few years ago..I'm sure he will weigh in soon...

Seriously, our group is not that bad. We like to cut up and carry-on a lot, but we don't get too outta hand.

Now the rest of the crowd may be a whole different story.

Well, it was the quiet area before I hit the sack and starting snoring up a storm!

Yeah, our group is pretty tame compared to the rest of the town. We did have the most awesome campfire around though. And some killer dutch oven food too!

I take it you are bringing your dutch oven, correct? Do you have a cooking table, and if so are you bringing it? I'm trying to decide if I should bring my whole set up or just a over or two. Do you have anything you plan on cooking?

Hey windigrrl. Yes, I am bringing my dutch oven. Not sure yet what I am cooking. I don't really have a cooking table, but I thought I would bring an old card table to set stuff on.
Creek Dancer

The cooking table I'm talking about is one used to put the charcoal and dutch ovens on.

https://secure.lodgemfg.com/storefront/product1_new.asp?menu=gear&idProduct=4025

What size dutch oven are you bringing? I was thinking about making a pinnapple upside down cake one night and maybe something for breakfast one morning. If you have yours we could make enough for everyone. What do you think?
windigrrl
6:36:02 AM
4/21/09

oh, so that's what a cooking table is! I don't have one of those, but I did finally buy a lid lifter.

hmmmmm...mine is either a 4 quart or 6 quart. I made dutch apple cobbler last year and it was big enough. Sure, I'd be happy to make pineapple upside down cake one night with you. And maybe breakfast too, but that would mean actually waking up and cooking somethin'!!
Creek Dancer

Yeah, that whole waking up and cooking part is what I'm not sure of. I made cinnamon rolls in my oven last weekend and they came out great.

Whatever you feel like bringing Yotaman.

Hyway and I usually bring the seafood, but last year I had a time finding oysters because they are out of season here so we can only get Gulf coast oysters. Hopefully I won't have that problem again. Any special requests besides the usual clams, oysters, shrimp and crab legs?

Talking to several authorities on the Trail Dayz committee....there will be a show of policeie,...crack down on POT and BOOZE this year. Apparently Damascus has a new Chief. Smoke the dope away from the camp ground and keep your booze out of site or in a cup or container not the original. Drug Dogs will be there. oh yes....bring some rubbers..

"keep your booze out of site or in a cup or container not the original" has always been the rule but in recent years they haven't been enforcing it hard enough for my taste. If you can't handle pouring your beer into a nalgene perhaps you aren't responsible enough to drink. Its a simple rule and one easy to follow.
