Anybodys also welcome to just do Mt Adams with us.” 7:22:19 AM 11/05/08 “That guy is a few ounces short of a full quart and you.............well, you are just crazy.” 7:35:16 AM 11/05/08 “Sounds like an ambitious week! Adams will be somewhat of a letdown after Rainier, but it's still a fun climb. You picked what is usually a good weather window. I'd consider the Adams climb, but unfortunately I will be flying to ... (wait for it) ... Cleveland. Yes, believe it or not, I already know this sad fact.” 7:47:13 AM 11/05/08 “If anyone wants to meet up in the park but not climb the mountain, there's an alternative get together happening. It's mostly women. A dozen possible right now. Keep that in mind. ;) See: http://www.thebackpacker.com/trailtalk/thread/52406.php?id_trip=962e56a8a0b0420d87272a682bfd1e53” 8:42:00 AM 11/05/08 “Maybe skip the IMG and see about getting your own private guide? Knowledgeable climbers have told me that they can be a little of a racket and too easily turn you back? last edited: 11/05/08 9:52:52 AM” 9:54:13 AM 11/05/08 “Hey Spindlette, nice plan.” 9:57:03 AM 11/05/08 “Come with MarkO. There will be food, booze, and hiking babes to show you around.” 10:00:13 AM 11/05/08 “And a whole lot of mountain views, fer-ever alpine gardens and maybe even some goat/bear love ;-P” 10:22:12 AM 11/05/08 “Maybe some windsucking uphills!” 10:26:57 AM 11/05/08 Still another option.. 10:31:34 AM 11/05/08 “Y'all really should have some male company, Spindlette. Ya know...............what with the goats and bears.” 10:31:56 AM 11/05/08 “Pththhhhht MarkO. Male company? What for? Bears are smart enough to fear this particular assembled lot of backpacker wimmin. We have no worries.” 10:41:08 AM 11/05/08 “So, I would be as safe as a babe in arms. Let's go!” 11:02:59 AM 11/05/08 “Flying in on July 28th. Be there or be square!” 11:08:07 AM 11/05/08 “Can I come along? Not sure if I want to climb Rainier, but maybe Adams. Or just hike like a madman. I have never been out west, hence the following: WARNING: Taking jmitch on trips is a bad idea as I will want to see everything, will cram in as much as possible, will relentlessly be on the go, and I might become annoying and/or aggravating.” 11:23:51 AM 11/05/08 “jmitch you are like me.. we put 2025 miles on a rental car in 10 days when we did oregon this summer.. I plan to cram St helen's and a few other stops in as well when we get out there.. '32oz” 11:27:43 AM 11/05/08 “Of course you can come jmitch! That's pretty much what we plan to do with the week anyway. Oh and we'll have TWO backpacking cookbook authors on this trip. I can flat out promise you some good eats. ;)” 11:29:16 AM 11/05/08 “Hey cocohead.. you coming? You can do Rainer with is while the girls take care of your new GF... '32oz” 11:30:26 AM 11/05/08 “Dibs on the New Girl!!” 11:31:19 AM 11/05/08 “..actually by next july she won't be a new girl friend anymore... '32oz” 11:32:26 AM 11/05/08 “Whatever. She's a redhead. redhead” 11:36:58 AM 11/05/08 “I'm in. I'm cooking. ;)” 12:42:55 PM 11/05/08 “mmmm... I'm making your Grand Marnier Chocolate Mousse on our upcoming post-T-day hike. I think they will want some.” 12:49:14 PM 11/05/08 “you all better save some of this cooking for when we get back down... '32oz” 12:51:47 PM 11/05/08 “Of course. We'll be meeting y'all when you get off the mountain.” 12:56:00 PM 11/05/08 “There will be plenty to go round!” 12:57:50 PM 11/05/08 Mt. Adams - Sleeping Beauty Trail “CrazyP, a bunch of us PNW hikers from tt that developed a group got together to do some hikes posted on Phil's photo page, but I do not see that we documented our trip to Mt. Adams. The trip had 2 purposes, to celebrate the marriage of Nomad & Meerkat, and to hike the Sleeping Beauty Trail. That trail is excellent. It's all about the 360 degree views from the top. You can see many moutains from this unobstructed view, I believe, Mt. Rainer, Mt. Hood, Mount St. Helens & I don't know if I've left one out (Mt. Baker?). Sleeping Beauty Trail info: http://www.fs.fed.us/gpnf/recreation/trails/locations/mta-0037-sleeping-beauty-peak.shtml” 1:01:52 PM 11/05/08 “Thanks for the report.. We saw Adams from the top of South Sister, so I'm sure you could probably see the 3 Sisters from Adams... I imagine its a gorgeous view from up there if the sky is clear.. '32oz” 1:04:59 PM 11/05/08 “Dicentra lives!” 1:06:21 PM 11/05/08 “Of course I do silly!!” 1:08:12 PM 11/05/08 “You're just a bleeding heart.” 1:26:21 PM 11/05/08 “Only for the right person. ;)” 1:32:46 PM 11/05/08 Information on Adams 5:02:14 PM 11/05/08 Mount St Helens 5:06:03 PM 11/05/08 “hmmm, I'd like to do both. Summer on St Helens is brutal from what I hear.” 5:44:54 PM 11/05/08 “What do you mean by brutal? That is actually the most popular time to climb it... '32oz” 5:48:50 PM 11/05/08 “I suggested it to a local. He said: Snagging a permit for St. Helen's would *probably* be do-able, but chancy because it's on a lottery system. Besides, you'd NEVER catch me up there in the summer because of the choking ash & dust, ball bearing pebbles, (ie- one stop forward, slide two steps back...) and the oppressive heat! I still want to do it. :)” 5:57:19 PM 11/05/08 “http://www.fs.fed.us/gpnf/recreation/mount-st-helens/ Spindle.. no lottery.. first come first serve starting Feb 1.. We all need to get together and figure out a plan.. '32oz” 6:16:17 PM 11/05/08 “Sweet. I want that. My mother would freak. ;)” 6:23:05 PM 11/05/08 “damn, I want to go too...” 6:29:01 PM 11/05/08 Mount St Helen's Trip “http://www.thebackpacker.com/trips/trip/1618.php We will also be hitting some awesome brew pubs!!!!!!!!!!!!! '32oz” 6:50:47 PM 11/05/08 “...so many hills, so many demands not hill related... 32oz is a bad influence.” 6:57:02 PM 11/05/08 “Spindle... you should talk more with him. He's done it... Rumi and Orygawn are planning a trip next summer, but I don't know when. I can be talked into almost anything.” 9:46:05 PM 11/05/08 “I've heard that about you. ;)” 4:42:41 AM 11/06/08 “Now you're talkin'.” 5:00:19 AM 11/06/08 “I like this whole " invading the west cost" theme !! Need more climbers !! Who aint scared ??? Cant have only 2 people represent TT on the mountain while the rest of you guys are hiking around, drinking, laughing and having a good old time. Ah crap, nevermind - Thats what we do on all our trips. Still need more climbers though!” 5:27:39 AM 11/06/08 “I know.. I am reconsidering the whole Rainier Climb thing.. The mountain will be there, this many TT'ers in Washington is a once in a life time event... LOL Wonderland trail in 2010 anyone? '32oz” 5:32:33 AM 11/06/08 “Did someone say pubs? Leavenworth? Oooohhh... I sooo can be your personal tour guide there! :D” 10:05:08 AM 11/06/08 “Dicentra, I had put an itinery together for a 2 week tour of Washington that got changed when I decided to do GNP.. Here are some of the other places.. What would you do? Mount Baker (area) Bellingham - Oyster Bar Boundary Bay Brewery and Up and Up Bistro. Silver Fir Campground Skyline Divide Trail North Cascades Scenic Hiway Withrop Mount Shuksan Blue Lake Washington Pass Twisp River Pub Winthrop Brewing Co Duck Brand Cantina Rock Sheler Trail Bavarian Leavenworth Lake Wenaatchee State Park Mt SI Snoqualmie Falls Nut Cracker Museum (fitting place for is nuts) Andreas Keller Resteraunt Columbia River Gorge Stevenson Walking Mn Brewery Goldendale St John's Bakery This trip might out do last summer's Oregon trip (If that is possible) '32oz” 10:25:21 AM 11/06/08 “Lemme look at this list... :) There's a lot of driving here(copy/paste then add comments) I'm deleting any I don't know... Adding a few at the bottom... Mount Baker (area) - Artist point! Very pretty Bellingham - Oyster Bar Boundary Bay Brewery - Add Chuckanut Drive Skyline Divide Trail - which one? I know of 2, maybe 3 North Cascades Scenic Hiway - Gorgeous!!! Winthrop - fun, but I wouldn't do this AND L'worth Mount Shuksan - can be paired with Baker (don't do both) Lake Ann has been on my list for a LONG time. Blue Lake - which one? lol Washington Pass - VERY cool! See both sides of the crest at the same time! Winthrop Brewing Co - Good food, lousy service Bavarian Leavenworth - ALL of downtown L'worth is the "Bavarian" part... Uncle Uli's, NOT Gustavs (overpriced and horrible service). The bookstore is one of my faves. I know where y'all can stay if you come there. ;) Lake Wenaatchee State Park - skip it. Mt SI - BORING Snoqualmie Falls - nice, but touristy Nut Cracker Museum (fitting place for is nuts) - kinda fun Columbia River Gorge - Gorgeous! (er, no pun intended). You can drive on the OR or the WA side... Add Multnomah Falls Stevenson - Char Burger is to be avoided! lol. You DO know the PCT runs right through there. Bridge of the Gods. Eagle Creek (alternate PCT route) is fantastic! Tunnel falls - hike behind a waterfall. Easy and beautiful hike! Goldendale - I haven't been there, but I want to! Not really near anything, so long boring drive in desert. Rainier - Wapati Woolies Olympics - Rain forest, Coast - Esp Rialto Beach Lotsa pubs! McMinnamins! No Seattle touristy things? last edited: 11/06/08 10:35:50 AM” 10:36:56 AM 11/06/08 << back to Deam Wilderness page
