You guys could easily do some hiking along the lake right now. I was down there the weekend before Thanksgiving and the water level in the lake was pretty low and the spots that would normally be muddy have firmed up with the cold weather.

BAIL ALERT***BAIL ALERT

I have 2 problems. Jeep was involved in a accident about a month ago and something still feels wrong. It was fixed however I still have a knocking. It will be looked at tonight so I may not have a way to get down there.

Also, work has been a nightmare. This is my busy month and I, like coyote, may have to work.

Jeep is okay...needed an adjustment in the transfer case.

Work is another story. No way I can make this now. I may be working both Sat and Sun, yuck!

Sorry guys...3 years and counting for me. I may never hike again.

I probably couldn't be there before 7ish, but it's still a possibility for me. Even then, I'd rather hike in a ways and camp, rather than camping at Blackwell.

Prosecutor says that when winter camping there is a thin line between enjoying yourself and misery. I am betting you all just avoided crossing this line...

I just spent the last half of today hiking in the snow along the White River in Indiana. Quite a (zinfull?) experience. I must admit that I wanted to be at the Deam this weekend but I had a wavering moment. What bothers me is the overnight in the bag. I only have a 20 degree and I don't thin thats enough...even with Carharts on. I would suggest that everybody have a look at www.truckaa.com/ and then perhaps a winter Deam could happen. These guys are "livin on the edge".

Once it drops into the lower teens I start to waver. Last time I did that was years ago and I decided f*ck the tent and slept in a snow cave. It was prolly a lot warmer but a pita to make.

I have an "icebox" igloo slip form and I am thinking this is the year it will get the most use. The kids love them and the neighbors think we are weird.

Hey Yogi!!
How long does it take to make a full size igloo with that thing??
Yeah,
Crash ruined me for the really cold hikes two years ago.. We were at The RRG and it got down ta 13 F one night. I had a zero bag and I froze!!! I never got really warm after that and I swear my feet were still cold for three days after!! LOL!! As long as it stays above 25, I'm good!! Strange how those last few degrees seem ta make that much of a difference…Oh yeah it’s 6 F outside right now!!
See ya later,

6 deg... crazy.

Making am igloo is fairly easy but I am not a master yet. It takes practice. It really requires 2 people. The system will make 3 sizes of igloos. I have a system where I can solo build the smallest which sleeps one or is a warming shelter for two. The next size up I think will sleep 2. I have never made the largest one. They take a lot of snow to make and we don't often have enough. We certainly have been hard pressed in years past.

I think solo I can build one in under two hours but it depends on the snow... how much and what type. Wet snow is easier to make blocks from but heavier and more work. Sugar snow is trickier to work with but makes a warmer shelter and the snow is a LOT lighter making the shelter easier to build. The slip form setup is well made and it is fairly light and packs small. Like building a snow cave or quinzee you get really wet doing a solo build. If you team build one person works inside the igloo packing the blocks and the other outside shoveling snow. The person inside gets pretty wet wet! The person outside keeps fairly dry. It is a lot of fun to use. It sounds tough but it is a lot easier after a few attempts. They pack it with a great video on how to use it.
