Many folks act as though this election has been the toughest election ever.

But, in 1968, there were assassinations, riots at conventions, a war with more casualties, etc.

Was there more tension during that election?

I would say the 1968 election was indeed a more troubling time, but I'm not a geezer yet. Kennedy and King were dead and we ended up with Nixon.

I agree that the tone of this election didn't seem particularly tough or divisive, even compared to four years ago!

Yeah, the four negative McCain attack ads run to every one of Obama's was pretty devisive. Didn't do much good though.
