New Remington Ammo Won't Fire!

Just tried to fire off some brand new 30-06 ammo we purchased last night at Wally World. Several rounds wouldn't fire! We had this problem about five years ago with Winchester ammo and had started buying Remington. Anyone else encountered this? I wonder if WM will refund ammo purchases when the box has been opened?

No returns on ammo, whoever you are. Try another brand or try firing the Winchesters from another 30-06.

my advice don't buy ammo, but not really the best advice because alot of people don't want to reload there own, so other advice would be don't buy ammo from walfart

Oh no, I know what this is all about. The chinese are planning to attack and they are leaving out all the powder they sell us through walmart.

Those cheap Chinese bullets probably have lead in them so you might want to be careful.

Funny to see this thread today. I have a box of Remington Core Lokt (bought last December), .30-30, that I've had two rounds where the bullet has actually pushed part way into the casing. Happened to one last weekend, and again this morning. I'm going back to Federal Fusion ammunition. Too, bad that brand is hard to find in my area.

How could that get past QC? I've always been told that that the extra pressure caused by bullet setback could cause a KaBoom. If it's coming that way from the factory, and someone gets hurt, then I would think that would be very bad news for the manufacturer.

Hence the reason I'm going with another brand. It may have been just a bad box of ammo, but I'm not going to chance it.

does it have to have happened in the factory?...couldn't that be caused during shipping, storing, or even after it was bought?

It happened after/while I loaded it into my rifle. Scary stuff.

These weren't reloads either.

Because I would have noticed the short bullet when loading it into my rifle. I noticed it immediately after ejecting it. Good thing I didn't have a buck walk out in front of me with that cartage loaded.

Nonconformist, it's a tube magazine pump. Savage 170

Try contacting Remington and make sure you give them the lot number, etc from the box. There would have been a recall notice if they were aware of a problem so it could be something on your end.

How many times have they been loaded and unloaded? Have you fired the gun when the magazine was fully loaded?

From this box, probably 6 or 7 times. I bought at the end of hunting season last year.

I do try to rotate the 4 cartridges I load, so I'm not always loading the same ones all the time.

And yes I have fired the rifle with it fully loaded.

If you can't find the Fusion, try the Hornady LeveRevolution ammo. 6 or 7 times is probably way too much, especially if the gun has been fired with them in the mag as well. (PS, I'm no expert either, but if I had to guess.....)

Sure it is the ammo and not a light strike on the primer?

Does the primer have a good deep dimple in it?

If this happened on two separate occassions, with two separate manufacturers of ammo, I am guessing you might have a firing pin problem.

Have you had a gun smith examine it?
