me and a couple of guys want to get out into the woods, get off the trail and enjoy a night away from civilization. I am trying to find an area in Georgia, Tennessee, or Alabama (We live in Alabama). WE are regulars to the pinhoti and sipsey. and ideas for a weekend trip?

Not sure what/where you were planning on taking him to...but when I lived in PA, I went to the WWII Weekend in Reading a couple of times. Here's the website:

IMO, it's a great way to spend the weekend.

I have been to a few civil war re-enactments, but every time I watch one, I have to wonder what our fascination is with death and carnage.

It is sort of a sad day when the recreation of killing becomes a spectator sport.

I agree and I am not that into these kinds of things.
But he loves it because his grandfather was in that war

We have no re-enactments, but there are some pretty good Saturday night brawls in some of the bars. The brawls are better becausethey are actual 'actments'. Bring him over; it's time he got his feet wet...nose bloodied, or something.

No chairs made of balsa or sugar-glass whiskey bottles, I'll bet!

I just saw Blazing Saddles again the other day with the big fight scene at the end....   No chorus line either, I'm thinkin'.
