Senate Democrats allow Lieberman to go unpunished.»

Today in a closed-door meeting, Senate Democrats voted 42-13 to allow Joe Lieberman (I-CT) to keep his chairmanship of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, despite his attacks on Barack Obama during the campaign season. Today during a press conference with Lieberman and other Democrats, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (NV) claimed that he was “angry” by Lieberman’s actions, but said that “we’re looking forward, we’re not looking back.”

So did Lieberman get McCained by the left or did McCain get Liebermaned by the left?

Lieberman was correct, of course. This the democrats obviously aren't denying.

Look... Lieberman "said" he was a Dem until the voters of Conn decided they didn't want him any more and chose Lamont instead...

Then, Joe Red suddenly wasn't a Dem anymore... He went IND. Now, the Repug candidate was a lunatic gambler nutcase (I think that's the official diagnosis) who didn't stand a chance!! ...so Rove, and the Repug party sorta helped old Joe out... and, with all the Repug votes (and a the undecideds) he won his seat...

Then he turned even more by actively supporting and endorsing McCain. You'd be hard-pressed to find any Senator who campaigned more than Joe Red.

Then, finally, he said, 'If you strip me of my chair I will caucus with the Republicans.' That is a weak threat for him to make... Even if he did caucus with the Repugs, the Dems still have the majority... and this would almost certainly guarantee he'd lose re-election next time around...

He should have been stripped of his chair.

because leibermen would become one of the leader of the yellow dog democrats, or what ever swing group forms in the next congress, if the democratic leadership tossed him under teh bus. he would have nothing to lose by fighting them every step of the way. this way he has plenty to lose.

If he actually caucused with the Repugs it wouldn't matter... He'd be gone from the Senate as his home state voters wouldn't re-elect him.
I'm not sure he'd be a threat at all...

So... I don't buy that argument...

The dems already threw him under the bus in his last primary. That's why he's an Independent. Despite the lack of support from "his" party, he was elected back to the senate. What kind of loyality does he owe them? He gave up all his principles to run for VP with Gore.

so what color are fiscal democrats. edit, just looked taht up, they are the blue dog democrats but are fiscal conservatives.

Blue Dog Democrats are those willing to betray the party and go with the Republics.

Nobody threw Joe "The Back-Stabber" Lieberman under the bus, he sucked up to the losers.

The Democrat Party didn't throw him under a bus! He was running for re-election... and in the Primaries the VOTERS said, "NO." This wasn't the Dem Party.

And, yes, he won re-election (as an IND) but he did it with the help of Rove and Republican voters... (and the Republican candidate was a disaster! The Republican party threw him under the bus... they knew he was unelectable, so they supported Joe Red instead...

Just to clarify... the Democratic Party didn't throw Joe under the bus...

BTW? Betray their party? So people shouldn't vote on principles and sound judgment, they should just bend to the lash and vote the way they are told?

So basically what ickyma is saying, in the Democratic primaries the Democrats voted against him, but in the general election everyone else voted for him. So supposedly that means the Dems didn't throw him under the bus, the ones who elected him did. I think I follow that.

how does anything listed above warrant removing him from his chair?...the only thing that should cause him to be removed from that chair is if we was either unable to perform the job or was not performing the way the senate would like him to..."politics as usual" isn't a reason for removing someone from a chair position

This was a great move by Obama. It shows he'll work with others. If he can't work with a once democrat (that the democrat party fukced over and left for dead) now independent how the hell is he gonna work with republicans?
