Obama won because Palin let him win. She wants to run against him in 2012 at the top of the ticket. She is a mastermind!

NEWARK, Del. -- Steve Schmidt, the McCain campaign's top operative, came back to his alma mater here this week to reflect on the 2008 campaign with his Democratic counterpart, fellow University of Delaware alum David Plouffe.

"Our strategic challenge," Schmidt said, was "the equivalent of throwing a football through a tire at 50 yards: It's doable theoretically, but it is very difficult and it needs a little bit of luck."

On the Bush-Cheney drag: "The first night of our convention was President Bush and Vice President Cheney. I literally thought by the second night of our convention we could be down 25 points." Schmidt spoke openly of McCain's reluctant choice of Palin after hopes of running with former Democrat Joe Lieberman were scuttled by the right, which threatened a convention floor fight. "That would have had the effect of blowing up the Republican Party."

On Katie Couric's interview of Sarah Palin: "That is one of the two most consequential interviews that a candidate for national office has given, in a negative way, the other being Roger Mudd's interview of Ted Kennedy . . . when he couldn't answer the question of why he wanted to be president."

On the state of today's Republican Party: "It is near-extinct in many ways in the Northeast, it is extinct in many ways on the West Coast, and it is endangered in the Mountain West, increasingly endangered in the Southwest . . . and if you look at the state of the party, it is a shrinking entity."

It's a really interesting article, with candid insights from both sides on why things went the way they did. Link here.

American Idol President
The articles pouring out of the lamestream media about Obama's first 100 days are priceless. I hope you had the chance to read the article about Obama being our "hippest" president. Today, we get this article from the American Free Press: Obamas rock and rule. Let me just give you a taste of what this has to offer ....

Fans swooning over the First Family's every move, wall-to-wall media coverage and one pampered pooch: the Obamas are the planet's hottest rock stars busy revamping the image of the US presidency.

In the 100 days since President Barack Obama and his family arrived in the White House there has been no sign of any let-up in the Obamania which swept the globe during the 2008 campaign.

Rather it has moved to the next level.

Tweenie girls now pin posters of the Obama's daughters, Malia, 10 and Sasha, seven, to their bedroom walls and fantasize about joining White House sleepovers and becoming BFFL -- best friends for life -- with the First Kids.

Magazine editors fight for the coolest image of the new president and his wife, Michelle, whether digging in the new organic garden, showing off their honed muscles, or romping with the First dog, Bo ...

And even though the United States is in the grip of its worst recession since the Great Depression of the 1930s, it seems the Obamas can do no wrong ....

Washingtonians have been lapping it up. Restaurants graced by the Obamas, see seats booked up for weeks ahead afterwards.

Kids are clamoring to get onto basketball teams in the hope that they will bump into one of the girls, and by extension their parents. And suddenly frumpy, staid old Washington is cool again.

This is what Americans wanted from their president, and they got it. The American Idol, YouTube, Entertainment Tonight voters of this country wanted a president that would look really cool on the cover of magazines, so they voted for the guy. They knew nothing about how he would represent our country to foreign leaders, no concept of his desires to radically grow our government, nothing. As I said before, your children will pay the price for this obsession with having a rock star for a president.

no dude, it makes me sad actually. They've managed to dumb you people down enough to vote for style over substance, showing your true intelect...

oh but at least he won't waterboard those nice Arab fellows....that's a relief

I had a conversation with a friend's father the other night about our new President. He is as far right on the political spectrum as they go.

He has been so upset, he said that he was thinking of killing himself, but he wants to wait to see if he gets re-elected.

I don't know anyone like that Wounded knee, but I am alarmed at the direction he's taken this country....and the apathy most people have....save the Tea Parties, nobody thinks a $13,000,000,000,000 debt is a problem.....

oh but, Bush spent 1.5T so it's ok, right?

It might do those who are upset with the newly elected administration to take a look in the mirror. In the article I linked to above, McCain's own campaign manager said, "As a political proposition, his first 100 days have been successful," he said. "His approval rating is in the 60s, there has been dramatic improvement in the 'right track' number, he's had success . . . at passing legislation, and the Republican Party as a matter of reality in the first 100 days has not done anything to improve its political condition."

Magazine cover rockstar, what? From pictures of his youth he's Steve Urkel. This is the guy that continually gots his ass kicked by the highschool qb and rockstar. Even a complete media makeover can only help for a short time.
