Conservativism Has Failed

Not!

Recently several people have gotten diarrhea of the keyboard as illustrated by their claim that "conservativism has failed - it's time for change".

***  NEWSFLASH ***

The United States hasn't being implementing conservatism, nor capitalism, since before 1933.

Just because some President has a (R) beside their name, that does not make them "conservative".

Would a conservative promote an open-boarder policy for illegal aliens?
No.

Would a conservative/capitalist issue "tax rebates" to people who never paid federal taxes to begin with?
No.

Would a conservative/capitalist extend unemployment benefits?
No.

Would a conservative put the safety and stability of other nations above their own?
No.

Would a conservative/capitalist promote bailing out ... any industry?
No.

What is it that has failed this economy?  Was it capitalism?  Was it conservatism?

A workforce that is paid not based on productivity and results, but on a union contract.

A number of laws which FORCE banks to give loans to individuals who are high risk.

A habit of issuing "tax rebates" to "jump start" the economy.

A HUGE pool of tax money used to bail out a failed industry, one that failed due to government regulations.

If you have a series of 200 capitalist concepts being implemented in an industry (auto industry for example), and ONE bad socialistic idea (unions for example), it only takes that ONE socialistic concept to destroy the industry, and because of that ONE socialistic concept, you can NO LONGER call it capitalism.  You can NO LONGER call it a capitalist system.  The same goes for how the government itself is run.  200 conservative actions can be torn down by one socialistic concept (heavy taxation). What makes conservatism & capitalism work? It's the lack of a safety net, the realization that in order to succeed, one has to put real effort into it, that one has to be innovative, that when I fail, I have to get up, dust myself off, and try again.

We are OVER-TAXED.
Our existing laws need to be enforced instead of relying on the thug-UNIONS.
We need to STOP raising taxes, and STOP coming up with reasons to tax.

That means both DEMOCRATS and REPUBLICANS alike.

What is it you people with diarrhea of the keyboard don't get?

Capitalism worked WHEN WE WERE CAPITALISTS.
Conservatism worked WHEN WE WERE A CONSERVATIVE NATION.

Unless you are visiting in your time machine from 80 years ago, don't tell me "conservatism is failed, it's time for a change."

It's time we go BACK to conservative ideals.
It's time we go BACK to capitalism.

The Republicans have failed not because of conservatism, but because they have become liberals. We conservatives are ready for change.  We want to see the end of liberalism.

The New Deal, 1933.

The depression was brought on by a market which was too robust to be handled by a technologically out of date stock market system.

That was one reason, Sarge. Other reasons included:

1. The Dust Bowl
2. Bank failures
3. Reduced purchasing
4. High taxes on imports

There will always be market adjustments with capitalism, nobody said it won't happen, but the depression would not have been nearly as extreme if it weren't for technological problems with capitalism growing the system TOO QUICKLY.

Capitalism died with the New Deal, another knee-jerk reaction to a normal correction. All of the problems with the depression stemmed from people's lack of trust.

Socialism, which stemmed in the US from panic and unwillingness to continue a frontier spirit, is what has dominated our system ever since the New Deal.

Socialism has failed.

Return to capitalism, something not seen since the last big panic.

Now we have people like poor Mutt here, who are so used to Democrat vs Republican ideology, they've lost track of what true conservatism is.

Mutt, join the ranks of people who have no clue y2, roseymonstrer, marko, violin & thriftyhiker.

What's that term for buying stock with no collateral and using the value of the stock as collateral??

On Margin??

Chalk that up as another reason for the Great Depression.

I hate it when I have to explain somebody's own words to them!

I quote from YOUR post: "The United States hasn't being implementing conservatism, nor capitalism, since before 1933."

Note the last three words: "since before 1933."

BEFORE 1933 was the Great Depression. Roosevelt was elected in 1932 and took office in 1933. The New Deal (AFTER 1933) brought us OUT of the Great Depression.

Of course, that means Herbert Hoover was the last great conservative. Ahhh those good ol days!

MarkO, the New Deal is socialism. We've been under socialism since. I said that. I said the New Deal was brought about by panic.

I did NOT say socialism won't give temporary boosts to the economy. On this site I've said it WILL do that. But, it's only temporary.

Once again, we have been under socialism since 1933.

It is a failed system. Capitalism will always need occassional corrections, (although, it would help if fools wouldn't panic), but it is what built this country.

You seem to have no clue what I'm talking about when I say the market technology failed.

There may be some aspects of our culture and governance that are somewhat "socialistic" in nature but that hardly constitutes "living under socialism".

If you want purity, go live in the woods like Ted Kozinski and write a nice long manifesto.
