Guessing you sleep inside. Are there bunks or a platform you sleep on or is it on the floor?

Can you cook inside on a coleman stove or does all cooking take place outside?

just the floor...haven't seen anything about cooking, but i would assume you could cook inside as long as you pinky swear not to burn the place down

Thinking about bringing the dutch oven and cooking near the fire if that is possible.

Sleeping on the ground in the cabin sounds creepy.

It has a fireplace inside that I think we can cook in. I was thinking about bringing a dutch oven as well and making some cobbler. There is a fire ring outside as well that can be used. I believe sleeping would be on the floor. That's not much different than fox den shelter. There is room to have tents near the cabin as well.

I can make my beef stew for Saturday night dinner earlier in the week and then heat it up in the dutch oven. Combine this with a few loaves of french bread and few bottle of wine!

I take it you can use a coleman lantern in the cabin, just not hung.

How far is the walk from where we park to the cabin?

I will probably take the whole day off so I can get there by noon or so.

Can we bring wood to burn in the fireplace? I would think yes.

Alright,
Thrifty,
I thought I read that if the weather is bad (Snow, Ice, Etc...)
That Mr. Ranger would not let ya open the gate and drive back to the cabin!! I guess you could always hike back there, but ya might wanna check ta make sure!
That's what I was talking about a back up plan for.. if ya can't go to the cabin..where would ya go???

Here is a plan B there is a shelter at morgan monroe at teh scout ridge that has a fireplace and we could stretch up a tarp if the wind would be bad and take off from there.

Guys I am going to put together a couple different options we could hike and we need to chose which we wwnt to do

Anyone have any hike they would like to do from the Drapier Cabin or stick with the plan of Yellowood Lake to the Fox SHelter I don't really care what we hike or where we camp just as long as teh date doesn't change heck a don't even need to be teh trip leader.

Lets hear from everyone
coyote820

I don't care what we do. Depending on the weather (it's been in single digits up here for past 2 days), one option should include the cabin as a basecamp. I think I can take the entire day off and can be down to rent/pick up keys by noon.

If the weather holds, then plan something else (camp Friday evening; hike Saturday and camp; out Sunday)

i dont really care, as i dont know the tecumseh trail that well, i just ask that if anyone hears the score of the colts game via radio or whatnever, please keep it to yourself, as i will be recording it (assuming they make it to the second round)

Thrifty I don't know if they wil even rent us the cabin that weekend yet. When I called they said we would have to wait until the day of to rent it.

If it falls thru we could go and camp up at Scout ridge they have a shelter there and build big white man fire for the night.

If we all agree to get the cabin, I will call Friday morning before I leave and reserve it. Deal?

i don't really see a reason why you couldn't rent the cabin.

as to the shelters on scout ridge, may want to ask the park people to see if they are cool with that. the old CO wouldn't have a problem but i don't know if it's still him making the rounds. if it's some young buck, i guarnatee he'll make an issue out of it.

I am out. Grandmother went into the hosiptal last week with pnemonia (sp). Three days ago the tests of the fluid from her lungs came back positive for cancer. This morning, she decided she did not want to go through with chemo so the Dr. is giving about a month.

It is amazing to see someone at peace with knowing that you may not be in the land of the living much longer. Visited with her 2 days ago for a few hours. She said at 87, she has seen it all and has no regrets.
