Day one “Reach our destination. Hiked ~10 miles. We will be hiking the road some tomorrow because of all the hunters in the woods. We have seen more hunter today then we have ever seen on the trail. We are sitting by a nice fire. Life is good.” 5:02:50 PM 11/28/08 “and you have your computer with you????...don't sit too close to the fire!!!!” 5:38:32 PM 11/28/08 “probably a blackberry or something like that” 5:42:58 PM 11/28/08 “LOL....yes...I figured....lol....I can get TT on my phone...wooo hooooo!!!” 5:46:18 PM 11/28/08 Day two “13 miles. Late post due to technical difficultlies.” 1:27:21 PM 11/30/08 Day three “Due to deer hunters, bad weather & sore feet we only did 5 miles today. Here are some observations. When peeing in the woods during hunting season be sure to look up before pulling down. Add nail clippers to your basic first aid kit. 15 day underwear does not living up to expectations. There's a reason they call body odor, odor. You should see the stuff ozing out of stomper's toes. More tomorrow.” 5:34:19 PM 11/30/08 “TMI” 9:16:46 PM 11/30/08 Day four “10 miles today! The woods were beautiful. No hunters. We saw wild turkeys, deer, live ones, and birds now that there were no hunters after them. We now see why everone. Wants to hike the north end. The last two days have been cold and wet. Tomorrow promises to be better.” 6:16:00 PM 12/01/08 “Thanks for the trip reports!!!! When peeing in the woods during hunting season be sure to look up before pulling down. is there a story to go with this remark??? Stomper...hope your feet get better!!!” 6:19:25 PM 12/01/08 “I bet stompy mooned a hunter in their tree stand. LMAO!!! EEEw! Stomper, if you'd only wash them things once in a while you might not have so much trouble with em. I'm not sayin ya gotta do it EVERY day, but at least every third day or so just give em a swirl in a bucket or somethin and it would help. Sounds like an adventure I look forward to hearing about for many trips to come. You ladies stay safe.” 7:06:45 PM 12/01/08 Wow!! “Deer Hunters in the LBL, During deer season? go figure!! I hope there are some pics ta look at!! Just in case anyone cares we got 4.5 inches of snow up here and more on the way later this week. Got down to 16 last nite!! Damm that's cold fer this time a year, even for northern Illinois. I finally bought a snow blower. Hey Chili, you guys get some snow down there??? See ya later. Randall” 9:49:01 AM 12/02/08 Day five “11 miles! More to come.” 3:39:04 PM 12/02/08 “We are done! It was cold, but at least the sun was shining. It was a learning experience. We didn't end up doing the whole thing, but are still pleased we what we were able to do. It's the most days in a row that we both have done. We missed 9 miles, but we have done that section in the past so don't feel like we missed anything.” 4:37:12 PM 12/02/08 “ready for the AT now?” 4:38:23 PM 12/02/08 “Randall, There was a couple inches up on the Cumberland Plateau, but all is clear now.” 5:39:16 PM 12/02/08 “Which 9 miles did you bypass? If I hike any part of the N/S trail again, it will definately be north of Golden Pond. The south half was pretty lame.” 5:51:26 PM 12/02/08 “We bypassed the very north part because we had hiked it before. I will only do the north end from here on out. It's so much better than the south end. We didn't take any pictures. Neither one wanted the extra weight, LOL. We did that a couple with the phone.” 6:06:26 PM 12/02/08 “great job girls! Yo bear.” 6:37:30 PM 12/02/08 “I actually liked that camp shelter just north of GP. Nice spot.” 6:47:41 PM 12/02/08 “It was very dry. There wasn't any running water this trip.” 7:34:55 PM 12/02/08 ““It was very dry. There wasn't any running water this trip.” this made all the creek crossings "doable"! My toes are doing better. Thanks to two ibuprofen every 4 to 6 hours for @ 3 days.” 8:10:54 PM 12/02/08 No Water!! “Great job!!! No Water down there??? I would a thought with all the rain this spring there would be some!! No pics!!, You slackers!!! Oh well... Chili, Snow in the Cumberlands,,, Man that makes me major league home sick.. I gotta feeling you folks down that way are gonna get some big snow this year!! Why should we have all the fun!! I will be comming down there in the spring again, maybe Big South Fork or someplace close to the falls...can't rememebr the name of the "turtle" trail there, something with a cochee in it. lol See ya later. Randall” 7:42:04 AM 12/03/08 “Just let me know. I would like to hike Virgin Falls in the spring.” 9:43:19 AM 12/03/08 “Sheltoewee Trace. That the Turtle trail I was taliking about!! See ya later. Randall” 11:33:24 AM 12/03/08 Sheltowee Trace “named after Daniel Boone, I believe.” 4:38:46 PM 12/03/08 “That's right but I thought the southern terminus was in RRG. Isn't BSF on the KY/TN border? That's a long way from the gorge. Well done ladies. The longer trips really are the best. There's just something about that fourth day and knowing there's still more to come.” 11:05:20 PM 12/03/08 “Here's the only pics I have. ![]() ![]() Here's a couple of our days profiles. ![]() ![]() ”4:22:36 AM 12/04/08 “the southern terminus of the sheltowee is in BSF” 5:20:57 AM 12/04/08 “Congrats! I am impressed!!!” 5:39:04 AM 12/04/08 “mean green is thinking of the Cumberland Trail The N/S trail had that much elevation change? WTH did I miss in March? Seemed flat to me.” 3:06:21 PM 12/04/08 “The last profile is of the north section of the trail. Keep in mind that the changes are only between 350 to 600 feet. That's not a real big difference compared to areas like the smokeys.” 5:20:50 PM 12/04/08 << back to Deam Wilderness page
