yes that will be a good route. I've never been that way to elk creek lake.
crash do you mean shuttle vehicles, are you driiving down too? or just cache water?

-I dont know how to get to anyother trailheads, and Ive found the directions on the map to be quite squirley.
Also, Not sure that I can leave before 530 friday nite.

crash if you want to hiike most of daylite we could go 13 miles each day-delaney to elk creek and back. Or hike most of saturday and then couple hours on sunday, with a shuttle

Is the meet up for Friday Delaney Park? Are we camping at the park Friday night? If so, I'll bring some firewood for Friday night. I have managed to drive to every trailhead on the Knobstone and they can be a little difficult to find some of them. Not all of the roads are well marked. How are you wanting to set up the shuttle? If possible, I might see about leaving my viehicle at Oxley Memorial so I can have a easy hike out on Sunday.

Sounds good crash. on the map there are 2 small lakes near 36 and 37, perhaps we could camp by one. they look to be about 1/2 mile from the trail.

Windi i got your message and Ill call you tomorrow. Looks like we are camping friday nite and starting from delaney park saturday. if crash is driving down, we'll leave his car at elk creek

-I probably wont be able to leave indy til 530ish friday but can check into leavin work a bit early and post tomorrow. Ill need to follow someone to the other trailheads friday.

this wont be one of those idiotic 45 miles in 2 days thru hike where we ignore multiple blisters and leg cramps and charge ahead 2 miles of our partners and dont wait to make sure they dont miss the easy-to-miss turns so that they get lost and have to spend the night by themselves and hitchhike back to the trailhead and wait 6 hours for everyone else to show up just to be given attitude by the people that left you behind kind of hikes

ive heard those are not fun

I cant leave till 530-but would prefer to follow someone down since I dont have a clue how to get to the other trailheads.

windi almost couldnt start a fire, i almost couldnt light my stove, attila almost didnt find delaney park. also, it was really cold

the trail started easy, then there were hills, then there was the most pointless pointless up-down in the history of PUDS.
Windi bailed, i forgot my stove fuel, attila shot at things and had a flat tire

the end

Sounds like it was a bumpy trip!
Too bad about Attila’s nuts!!
Does this mean his gonna get all fat and feminine like??
I'll bet Jill is kinda unhappy bout the whole thing! He's gotta enough kids now, so maybe it won't be that big a problem!! He'll just have to work on his other techniques ta make up fer the loss.
Too bad!! LOL

Well crashe's trip report is pretty accurate and incredibley consise.-EXCEPT my nuts only were loose, not off! so it was just a matter of re-tightening things!

WE met up at delaney park friday nite; 2 hours later for me than the others. (I have a feeling that first Delaney Park sign on 135 isnt long for this world!) Cars were shuttled, back roads were discovered, 2 Fosters oilcans were emptied.
It was Cold friday nite- low of at least 14 acording to windigirls gauge, and confirmed by the park maintenance guy, rick.
Saturday morn was very clear and cold to start. But we got movin; first windi g then crash and I. The re-route off of Spurgeon hllow loop is an old gravel road, but the views were real nice and far to the east, on such a clear day. We met up with windi g at the spurgeon/oxley junction and continued on toward Oxley t.h.
After a few pit stops we hit Oxley, just in time to git windi g's call about her heading home to hubby. We loaded up on water that windi left for us and continued on to milemarker 36ish to camp. This was a very hilly/rugged section and was a hell of a work out for these legs that have'nt hiked for a few months. We camped near a nice little stream about 1/4mile before mm36. There was some rain off and on that nite, but not much; we were able to chill around the fire most of the nite and eat of course. This nite was a lot warmer at around 33 degrees.

Sunday we headed out of camp and continued toward elk creek on a cloudy and windy day. The trail continued to have lots of ups and downs on this section. we hiked about 5 miles to elk creek t.h.

We shuttled back to my van to find that I had a flat tire. It was quickly and skillfuly replaced by crash and I- with the spare in no time flat. Thump thump thump....was the sound of my nuts being worked loose as I aproached brownstown. Apparently this happens when one drives 60mph's on a spare that is only rated to 50!! I re-adjusted things and didnt drive over 50mphs the whole way home.

The mileage was aprox 15 miles. By my calculations about 7 miles were up, 5 miles down and 3 miles somewhat flat. Water was no problem all along this route (at this time of year as crash pointed out). In addition if you're brave there are plenty of left over water cache's at the trailheads!

Sorry randal no one had a camera.
