2009 PA MLK Weekend Trip

“We had a great time. My Father at age 70 summited Aconcagua.

I am still 0-2 on it though. Last year we were cut short by my fathers lung congestion, this year I could not get doctor clearance past base camp due to low blood oxygen concentration. You need a 80% or better. I was 71%. So even after climbing an 18,000 foot mountain and 3 14,000 footers, over 6 days, I did not acclimate well.

Oddly I felt better this year than I did last. B was cleared but wanted to stick with me so we left my father up there with the guide and we headed back to town 4 days early.

“I think Patagonia is further south from what our locals told us. Aconcagua is about 200 KM west of Mendoza very near the Chile boarder. In fact Chile tried to claim Aconcagua as a mountain that was in Chile. It did not work.”
