actually, green, why dont we meet at leota trailhead? that way we can get the shuttle out of the way

I've got a mollycocker of a day at work lined up so it's going to be after midnight before I get to the trailhead. I already told Meany this but it's worth repeating...where EXACTLY will you phuckers be? I want coordinates in three different formats, I want topos, hand drawn maps and hand written directions, electronic strobes laid along the trail and I swear to every living gawd if I get there and there is a note saying this site sucked so we went five miles down the trail I'm going to shred every last tent with my Spiderco at camp when I get there!

And if Salem says, "Hey, let's see how close we can set up to the trail while still keeping camp hidden from Nigal.", please kick him in the nuts preemptively for me.

Mollycocker = A long hard...day.

We're going to have that line of storms come through with 60 MPH winds. Hope it doesn't hit down there too hard.

Nigal,

I sense a little tension on your part! We're not hiking in too far from New Chapel I promise! LOL

Attila, We'll just plan on doing the shuttle thing first thing on Saturday.

My night hiking/camp finding record speaks for itself. LOL! From what I have spoken to Meany about he and I are meeting (meating?) Thursday night and starting from Jackson Rd and heading north. Unless I've missed something.

yes, nigal, meeting at jackson trailhead thursday night is how i understand it. i know there is good camping down the hill and on the main trail. you have to take the connector trail from the parking lot to get there. i dont know if mg wants to camp there, or closer to the cars, tho

North of Jackson Rd?

the kt doesnt actually cross jackson road. you take a sidetrail from the trailhead parking lot to get to the main kt

be careful. on the new map, what is jackson road is referred to as hilltop road on the new map (but it is still called jackson road on the old map).

the parking lot is a few hundred yards off jackson road, to the east. watch for the kt signage

Crash, happy to meet @ Leota.

Nigal, I've never used the connector trail to Jackson Rd TH, so I have no idea what's on it for camping. Obviously it would be a good idea to stay kinda close to the cars Thurs. This trail looks to be nearly a half mile long running the spine of a narrow ridge that slopes down into a valley. I'd rather not make you go that far in the dark when you have no clue where you are headed. Our options seem a bit limited though. The valley looks to have a large flat area just N/E of the trail junction which could be nice. If we camped there we would start our day with the climb to Round Knob which is a pretty good haul. MORNIN! (kick to the jewels) Hopefully Scotty-poodles and I can find something closer, but either way, we will be sure to mark it VERY well and we'll be watching for you. Though I'll be drunk by the time you get there.

KT signage = brown 6x6 post w. "KT" painted in yellow near the top. They don't exactly stand out in the dark.

ive come down that hill, and it is steep. i would NOT want to come down it in the dark and just after a mini-noah just went thru

if leota is the place im thinking of, theres a nice campsite just a few minutes north of the road

is that the place where we cached water on that big monster hike, where we talked to a couple of what looked to be college age kids?

nevermind, im thinking of oxley

leota is where the trail is really steep coming from the south, and it traverses a really steep hill. i had a little difficulty finding a good spot to cache the water where it wouldnt roll downhill, without being right on the trail.

based on just looking at the map, there might be some spots to camp on the north side of the road. having never been there, cant say for sure

I'm thinking just before the 25mi mkr there is a level area where the trail mingles w some ranger roads. That looks promising.

i'll be driving down friday. i arrive at o'hare from toronto (hopefully) just before 5pm and will leave directly from the airport.

there have been a lot of posts about camp sites... i am going to the NEW CHAPEL trailhead where i recall there being a parking lot with a big kt sign. i'll prolly be sleeping in my car in that parking lot and hike into camp in the morning. if you don't see me give a look in the lot before taking off. i can't imagine i would oversleep and i don't see an early riser in the bunch...

Yogi,

Yeah, we're camping just North of New Chapel Friday night. We'll have to do a car shuttle of some sort first thing Saturday, so we'll see ya in the parking lot if not in camp. Crash made it sound like we're camping less than a 1/4 mile North of New Chapel, so you should see us soon after you start hiking.

They have great directions at:

They even give gps coordinates for the trailheads.

All right, I'm hittin' the road. Crash called me and said he was setting up camp but 100' from the road so I can find them tonight.

What happened on the Knobstone stays on the Knobstone!

The molester's cop out #27364.

In a nutshell it kind of went like this...

MG got drunk.
MG nearly fell in the fire.
MG tried to burn the forest down.
MG woke us up at 4:45am with gay porn music on his gay phone.
MG tried to kill Crash and myself on the drive to the TH.
We hiked and hiked and hiked and hiked and hiked.
MG got drunk again.
Salem told me he was going to "...have my way with you big boy.".

Just your basic TT Sausage Fest.
