North Fork Mountain Trail, West Virginia

“Hey y'all, come on along and see one of West Virginia's best trails.”

“If you want an easy hike with tons of VIEWS ....sign up for this one. One of the most scenic Trails east of the Mississippi.”

“This trail goes about 24 miles from Rt 33 near Franklin, WVa to a point near Rt 28/55 west of Petersburg, WVa.

Friday night's camp is 7 to 8 miles from the northern trail head.

The first two miles is a long uphill march and the rest is a roller coaster with cliffs along much of it.”

“I'm interested in this, but I'll have to see about a few things and how these dates work out.”

“Is this the first real test for the knee?

I hope to get back to WV at some point in the next few years but it doesn't look like it'll be this year. (I believe the west is where I'm heading this year!!)”

“This here will be my first trail hike though I have gone back to commuting on foot most days with an occasional ride.

The knee is pretty good but on the whole my endurance ain't good.”

“Problems with your endurance? They have some new products out to help.”

“So what's the plan for mileage hiked on Friday and Saturday?”

“Friday's hike will be about 7 or 8 miles with the balance of the 12 miles on Saturday.”

“Dates look good for me. It's been a very long time since I've tramped around some West Virginia hills.”

“i signed up for this yesterday. i believe i was on the drunk fest a few years back. didn't somebody break your chair marko?”

“Perhaps it was already mentioned and I just didn't see it, but is this a shuttle hike? Whats the total mileage?

“The total hike is about 12 miles or even a bit less.
We will have to shuttle cars and the party is at the end of the hike this time.

“That's the trip we hikes a couple miles after the all nighter , and i thought we hiked 10 miles.....I remember that first big break we took and seemed like every one was moaning a croaning and snoring...Felt like a 10 mile no stop trek...”

“Yup, that's the one. It was about 3 or 4 miles.”

“Seemed like 8 or 10.....i remember hitting my bag before dark.....I woke up in the same position I first was in that evening.”

“So...if I had to hit the trail on Saturday morning or very late Friday night I'd basically have to do 12 miles to catch up???”

“Iffin you could take a day off ....you can ride FREE with me.”

“There is another route you can take to friday night camp....just 5 miles in ....interested!??? Let me know..”

“That would be the North Fork of the South Branch of the Potomac River, eh?”

“sooo Uncle Fridge, when would you be headed to West Virginy? THursday night, or Friday? If I could get the day off....could I catch a ride with you, please :)”

“I will head out there on Thursday night.”

“I have Friday off. If I drove down Friday morning I could be there around noon. Or I could drive part way Thursday night and crash somewhere then finish the drive Friday morning and arrive before noon. I'll figure that out when it gets closer.”

“For those who arrive later we will have at least one car parked at the midpoint, which is where we get off the trail and spend Saturday night.

Saturday's hike will only be 3 to 4 miles, so there will be time to fetch cars from the northern trail head.
If we get all the cars back Saturday we will be ready to roll out on Sunday.”

“Do I need a map ....what map would I get?”

“Where is this place?”

I'm assuming the trail is distinguishable--its not one of Frigy's crazy bushwacking adventures, is it?”

“No no, this trail is easy enough to follow and runs up and down along the ridge top.”
