Ocala National Forest 1/23 - 1/27
I'll be taking another trip to Ocala National Forest from 1/23 to 1/27. If anyone plans on hiking in the area during that time give me a shout. I'll be taking my usual route. Parking at the pull off at the intersection of FR65 and FR76, and hiking the trail in to Hidden Pond.
Has anyone done the Yearling Trail? I'd like to know if it's worth the hike or not, other than for the hike and excercise.

Yes! It is an interesting route to get to Hiden Pond. You will see a large sink hole and an interesting cemetary.

Any hike is worth the hike!

I've been to Hidden Pond using that route also and gone by the Yearling Trail, as well as coming in from the south. That is a huge sinkhole. I bet it was something to see back when it was full of water. The Yearling was one of my favorite movies. I was just wondering if there was anything physical such as buildings etc. to check out or if it was just an area where everything is gone and grown over except the cemetary.

Keep in mind that some of the roads' names have changed. Most signs have the new and old designation posted.

The water at the lake south of the bombing range was pretty darn cold this past weekend.

The water will definately be cold. It's supposed to be low in 50's to high 77-78 this weekend.
I sure won't be taking a dip in the pond, and I'll be getting the water nice and warm on the fire and waiting until the sun is nice and high before I wash up mornings, lol.
It'll be refreshing though, and much better than the blazing heat of summer.
I think I may just pass on the Yearling Trail hike this time and hang around the camp enjoying the weather. Doesn't sound like much to see other than another nice trail to hike.
The last time I went for four days when it was this cold, well not quite this cold, only got down in the low 40's at night, lol. I didn't see a single person the whole time.
Maybe some people will be hiking up there this weekend, with it warming up and all.
