Permitting “For those interested in 'bagging' Mount St Helen's while we are in Washington this summer, please rememeber that we need individual permits and the permitting is first-come first served starting Feb 1. I am looking at either August 5 or 6 and will post the date along with the link later this week... The cost of the permit is $22.00. We swung by Jacks restaurant and it was no problem to get permits on Friday evening for the next day. I haven't heard of others having a problem getting them either. Did I mention Mt. St. Helens is the biggest sand dune I've climbed?” 7:13:38 AM 1/21/09 “Toe jam, what month did you go.. I've been told that it gets pretty full some months.. Thanks '32oz” 7:52:58 AM 1/21/09 “It was late July. There were lots of people on the mountain but no problem to get a permit. Come to think of it, we got permits Thursday night for a Friday climb. The research I did at the time indicated that it wasn't necessary to get a permit in advance. Check summitpost to see how it worked last year. It wouldn't hurt to get them early. You'll also need some kind of forest pass in the car to park at the trailheads, and it's best to have that with you when you arrive.” 6:52:07 AM 1/22/09 << back to Deam Wilderness page
