Is that the Gulf Coast of Mississippi?
MarkO

No, the Atlantic Coast of North Carolina as the nor'easter moved off the coast.

Those are big breakers.

Geo, why not go in summer?

Are you afraid of some little mosquitoes and horse flies?
MarkO
12:36:07 PM
1/20/09

Those mosquitoes have FAA wing numbers. Last summer 14 kids disappeared off the Banks, carried back to mosquito nests and ravaged, no doubt.

My son called this morning (he is in South Port, NC) and was sitting at the coffee shop watching it snow. He said they were going to go surfing in the snow!!!

Just after high tide here and it came up nearly to the base of the dune. Not sure about the position of the low, but the high high tide comes in the morning. Hopefully onshore winds will be less by then.

Geobeet, was surprised to hear from another TTer that you were here. Are you on vacation or do you live here on the OBX?

We live in Kill Devil Hills.

Vaca with some friends Geezr. We're in South Nags Head right by Whalehead Junction. Heading to Coquina Beach tomorrow to see what washed ashore.

Winds are dying down. The house isn't shaking anymore. Felt like earth tremors.

Thats provided there's any shore left. ;-)

Do you have 4WD or will you be parking at the access site and walking over? Email me at obxnomads@yahoo.com and if possible, and if you don't mind, we'll try and get down to see you briefly.
Geezr

Yep, park and walk. Looks from here like there will still be plenty of beach, but we repeat about 4 a.m. about the same if the winds die down. If they remain strong, it will be a foot higher.

Any time on the Banks is good. No, not a banker, but I do appreciate the place.

Storm is offshore this morning with a heavy bank of clouds to the east. Seas are slowly calming down, but still some big waves. Tide is going out with low tide at 10:30 or so.

Heading to Coquina Beach after breakfast to see what washed ashore.

AAAhhhh a treasure hunt
Have fun

No midget submarines washed up in the storm. Actually it seemed to clean the beach off for the most part. Found large whelk, small whelk, and chunk of ship's metal.

Ocean has calmed down this afternoon with the storm gone from view. Still a few sizeable breakers rolling in.

I think I could live in a Harris Teeter store for a few weeks without coming out.

Visited the nice woman in The Southern Soldier and bought a hat insignia. Nice little shop.

So tell me crazygurl, where the hell is Blackbeard's treasure buried or did you already dig it up and not tell anybody??? Everytime I come down here I look for a great big X on the beach and never have found it.

Urp! It took just seven of us to pile up an oyster shell midden that would have done the Lenni Lenape proud. Dang they was good! Out of Pamlico Sound and into my gut.

The week on the Banks is quickly drawing to a close. Tomorrow morning I head to Charleston for a Conservancy board meeting, then back home on Sunday. A week is not nearly long enough.
