I'm 50. Born and raised in Georgia. I have never met a Klansman.

You lily-white Yanks need to get up off that ebonics - you're embarrasing yourselves.

Our schools intergrated in the early 70's. I was a 7th grader. Originally, our county had two separate campuses, each composed of an elementary and a high school. The white campus became primary and high; the black campus elementary and jr. high.

I had a music class. My teacher was also the high school band director. He had been director at the black school for many years (the white school had no marching band).

Being keen to such things, he recognized my musical genius, and quickly recruited me into the high school marching band - which was essentially the existing black band. Three other white kids joined.

Man - what a baptism I had. For the next three years I would march and play across the state with the Jackson High School Mighty Red Devil Marching Band. Our drumline was unsurpassed. Our drum majors were crisp and entertaining - absolute showstoppers. Our marching was arrow straight, busbee bobbing, high stepping sights to be heard. There is nothing like a large group of people moving and grooving as one. Nothing. It changed my life forever.

Our first drum major, Jessie, was a HS senior. He had been drum major since he was a 10th grader. One word: dance! That muddafugga had it goin' on!

After leading us onto the field and getting us in formation during our halftime show, he would start the playing using his whistle and baton. Then, he would drop the baton, do a Jackson-esque 5000 degree spin into a James Brown split, and bounce back up into a rhythmic flailing and jumping in perfect time (kinda like Whoopi Goldberg in Sister Act - but oh so much better).

Jesus f'ing Christ! Y'all would of had to of been there. True genius.

Naturally, the center seats of the bleachers were reserved. The folk seated there were lifelong ticket holders - movers and shakers of the community. They were also white. The black folk, students, and irregulars were mostly relegated to the bleachers nearest the end zones.

I was appalled and embarrased by the reaction of the folks seated directly in front of Jessie. They were not happy with his routine. "This jiggaboo #&%!$s gotta stop!" they must have said.

I will never forget how I felt that day at band practice when Mr. Buggs made the announcement.

I love it when Yankees (same thing as a monica but you do it yourself (LOL)) ask why I live in the South.

I tell about a time almost 20 years ago when I was driving to Atlanta to a conference. My car started acting up and I ended up pulling into a gas station. The attendant called the owner (he was at supper) owner looked at the car and told me it would take about 3 hours to repair.

Then he looked at me in my suit and asked what I was doing. I explained it was a meeting I had to get to in Atlanta.
He reached into his pocket and threw me the keys to his truck, told me it was full of gas and when I came back he would have my car running.

NOW on the other hand here is a "GASP" Judge in Glastonbury, Conn....I think that is UP NORTH?

WOW hey guys...how do you explain this?

*GASP* Your story would never happen up north! Well, except maybe last Friday. My check engine light came on, so I took it to the place that did my 105K service. They hooked it up and found the code that said the EGR ports needed cleaning. The owner called and said it would be ready by 5. So I get there and they're still working on it. Soon, it's 5:45...

The owner comes over and says the tech keeps getting a strange code relating to the tranny, so he wants to be safe and not drive it. So he pulls his car around front, hands me $20 because the tank is low, apologizes and sends me on my way for the weekend. Didn't ask for proof of insurance or copy my DL or anything, just hands me the keys to his new Camry and says, "see you Monday".

Yesterday he calls and says they hooked my car up to a different code scanner and the original one and cannot get that code to reappear, so everything's fine. For my trouble, they threw in an oil change for free.

WOW hey guys...how do you explain this?

All I can say is this I have found the South to be a better (we take care of our own) environment than any of the "hoity toidy" crowd could imagine. I am certain Kleetn is very happy where he is, but I still ask this question of friends who ask why I live in a small town in the South.

"You bump into a guy with his arms loaded with books and papers....he will end up dropping all the stuff...would you rather do it in Atlanta Ga or New York City?

Oh for heaven's sake....live where you want, its a free country...(at least at 0757 hrs (local time) on January 28, 2009 it is)

Look I have friends who live in Pen!slyvanian and love it. I have a guy in the office who cannot wait to get back to Cleveland....great you get what you look for.

There is an old story about a Elderly Gentleman in a small town who was approaced one day in his store by a young couple. They asked,"What are the people in this town like?"The young couple mentioned they were moving and looking for a new place to put down roots.
He asked,"what were the people in the town you left like?"

The young couple said,"OH they were not all that nice, they seemed to stay in your business when they weren't commenting on your life. We just didn't like them."

The old man thought a moment and replied,"Well they are pretty much like that here."

A few minutes later another couple came in and related that they too were moving and looking for somewhere to live and they wanted to know what this town was like.

When the old man asked the couple explained,"to be honest we were really torn about the promotion, our old town the people were warm, open and really seemed like a giant extended family. Sure there were problems but we hated leaving them. It was like they were always there for each other and we had a lot of friends."

THe old man said,"Well this town is pretty much like that."

After the couple left a man came up and asked him why he gave two different answers to the same question. He explained,"I have found out you will normally find what you are looking for in people."

Stove to be honest I was opposed to the Big Three Bail out. Rather than allowing them to Bail Out (meaning with a parachute) I felt they should have just been pushed out....

I have to stick to my belief that the Government has NO reason to be involved in our personal lives.

Oh and just to throw some more gasoline on the fire....How many people here have Pensions or Retirement Plans?

"Dems Target Private Retirement Accounts
Democratic leaders in the U.S. House discuss confiscating 401(k)s, IRAs

By Karen McMahan
November 04, 2008

RALEIGH — Democrats in the U.S. House have been conducting hearings on proposals to confiscate workers’ personal retirement accounts — including 401(k)s and IRAs — and convert them to accounts managed by the Social Security Administration.

Triggered by the financial crisis the past two months, the hearings reportedly were meant to stem losses incurred by many workers and retirees whose 401(k) and IRA balances have been shrinking rapidly."

What's wrong with saying our president needs to be stopped? Our system has checks and balances, K? If one errs, the others can check it. If that fails, the power lies with the people. The executive branch is erring bodaciously. It needs to be stopped - dead in it's tracks, if you will.
