“I guess almost everyone here knows about it, but I haven't seen any discussion on this board. There was another anouncement up here to-day and it's still growing. It's the Clif bar and other meal bar brands that have me going.

I wonder what fraction of the delivered material was contaminated and what fraction of the bacteria could have survived the manufacturing process and subsequent storage (especially given the concentrations of sugar and salt). I haven't heard claims that anyone was sickened by these products.”

“My question is not whether anybody got sick or died in the outbreak, I'm well aware of that. However, because of their very different manufacturing processes, I don't believe the risk is evenly distributed among the recalled products, and I question whether some of them have any risk at all. For example, I doubt there's much risk where the peanut components were subjected to prolonged high heat in preparation. They seem to be simply recalling everything with ingredients that came from that factory in a given time period.”

I love peanut butter and have a jar that I have eaten from and had no problems. I will, however, wait before buying a new one.

I agree. The lack of adequate inspection (high advance risk tolerance), combined with zero risk tolerance upon discovering a problem, creates these enormous recalls that will eventually become more costly than keeping a closer watch on things.”
