“I guess almost everyone here knows about it, but I haven't seen any discussion on this board. There was another anouncement up here to-day and it's still growing. It's the Clif bar and other meal bar brands that have me going. Go to www.inspection.gc.ca for the latest (click on English) and there are links to your FDA. Doug” 10:55:17 AM 2/02/09 “I ate several of the recalled Mojo bars before the recall. I wonder what fraction of the delivered material was contaminated and what fraction of the bacteria could have survived the manufacturing process and subsequent storage (especially given the concentrations of sugar and salt). I haven't heard claims that anyone was sickened by these products.” 12:18:26 PM 2/02/09 “I bought a huge package of zone perfect bars like 4 or 5 months ago to eat after I work out and now that the whole package is gone they announce it. *oh yeah thanks for that it's good to know that I'm gonna die of ecoli now that I ate the whole package of your dam bars*” 12:44:06 PM 2/02/09 “Salmonella. More puking, less diarhea.” 2:01:31 PM 2/02/09 an email I recieved.... “Dear Loyal Consumer: In recent days, you may have heard news regarding the safety of certain types of products that contain peanut-based ingredients. We can assure you that all of the products made by ConAgra Foods, including our popular Peter Pan Peanut Butter, are safe to enjoy, and no ConAgra Foods products have been recalled. We've confirmed that none of the products we make contain any peanut ingredients made by Peanut Corporation of America, the company at the center of the government's investigation of an outbreak of salmonella-related illnesses. We also have confirmed with our suppliers that they do not purchase any ingredients from the Peanut Corporation of America. We are extremely confident in the safety protocols, including stringent quality testing, for Peter Pan Peanut Butter and our other products; and we appreciate your continued loyalty as you shop for the food your family loves. If any of your friends or family members have questions about the safety of their products, including Peter Pan Peanut Butter, please feel free to share this email with them. For more information about the government's investigation, we recommend you visit the U.S. Food & Drug Administration's website. If you have any other questions, please contact us or call 1-800-222-7370. Thank you for your loyalty and patronage of our brands. Sincerely, ConAgra Foods, maker of Peter Pan Peanut Butter” 5:26:29 PM 2/02/09 “I like contaminated peanut butter that makes me squirt out of both ends simultaneously.” 5:27:52 PM 2/02/09 “LOL...ewwww......” 5:30:50 PM 2/02/09 “Yes, we've been "assured" that jars of peanut butter for consumer sale weren't contaminated..... just nearly everything else that has it as an ingredient. Outstanding.” 5:53:54 PM 2/02/09 “Damn. They nailed the Keebler Elves and Famous Amos, too.” 6:02:34 PM 2/02/09 “I may develope an eating disorder.....” 8:18:07 PM 2/02/09 “And those Thai TV dinners.....” 8:47:12 PM 2/02/09 “Only one person was ill in Canada and that was someone who had just returned from the States. In the US 8 people have died and about 2 dozen have been hospitalised.” 9:01:52 AM 2/03/09 “My question is not whether anybody got sick or died in the outbreak, I'm well aware of that. However, because of their very different manufacturing processes, I don't believe the risk is evenly distributed among the recalled products, and I question whether some of them have any risk at all. For example, I doubt there's much risk where the peanut components were subjected to prolonged high heat in preparation. They seem to be simply recalling everything with ingredients that came from that factory in a given time period.” 10:27:01 AM 2/03/09 “Gremlin, can I move to Canada?” 10:30:56 AM 2/03/09 “I heart peanut butter so much, that I have a jar of it by my night stand and one at work (veggie heads need more protein) . hmm might have to toss them :(” 10:40:09 AM 2/03/09 “I dunno mapes. If they haven't made you sick so far, they probably won't.” 11:26:37 AM 2/03/09 “I hope that's natural peanut butter and not the stuff with hydrogobulated vegetable oleo.” 11:32:56 AM 2/03/09 “We have our own problems up here, MarkO. Big Load has a valid point. The problem is how does one tell which is safe? I love peanut butter and have a jar that I have eaten from and had no problems. I will, however, wait before buying a new one. I don't want to start a huge discussion, but with contaminated tomatoes from the US and listeriosis from contaminated prepared meat up here so recently, there is clearly a problem in the food supply in North America.” 12:30:19 PM 2/03/09 “What, like you won't sponsor me, Unca?” 12:36:40 PM 2/03/09 “Yeah, okay.” 12:42:54 PM 2/03/09 “Ah, retirement on the Rockburn Riviera!” 12:53:59 PM 2/03/09 “with contaminated tomatoes from the US and listeriosis from contaminated prepared meat up here so recently, there is clearly a problem in the food supply in North America I agree. The lack of adequate inspection (high advance risk tolerance), combined with zero risk tolerance upon discovering a problem, creates these enormous recalls that will eventually become more costly than keeping a closer watch on things.” 1:59:28 PM 2/03/09 “On a positive note, the cows seem less pissed off lately.” 8:10:52 PM 2/03/09 “That's become a hot subject up here too, BL. BTW has Violin been seduced by some doe-eyed jersey?” 8:43:20 AM 2/04/09 “On a positive note, the cows seem less pissed off lately.” VioLiN 8:10:52 PM LOL so are the chickens...” 8:46:35 AM 2/04/09 “It's ALL safe! It's a BIG LIE! Eat Georgia peanuts!!!” 8:50:52 AM 2/04/09
