I was wondering if anyone knows about this area. I think it is about an hour outside of Tulsa.

I was thinking of attending an event there this Sept.

I saw the Sequayah State Park near there, I wonder if they have camping...

A friend of ours is from Oklahoma. She grew up there. She told us how you'd know a storm was coming form miles and miles away, because the wind would start first, and keep building up until it howled around you.

That area doesn't sound too bad, actually. Except the combine hunting/ camping.

I lived there from '77 to '81 and enjoyed it very much. The wind never stops in Oklahoma.

I grew up in Tulsa - the Tahlequah area is nice. The Illinos River is the main draw. Lots of canoe rentals for float trips (very popular with the local college students). We would do the trip several times each summer. It can be a really busy river in the summer.

The state parks in the area are nice also - at Lake Ft Gibson(Huge) or Tenkiller(nicer).

If you get to the Grove, OK area there is a very nice museum called Har-ber village.

Dork,

I live about an hour away from Lake Tenkiller. The lake is in the foot hills of the Ozarks. The area will be hot in Sept. This is not the plains of OK, where the wind is blowing all the time. The park is at the mouth of the Illinois river which has several canoe rental places. I doubt that they have a touring yak but they do have sit on tops that you can paddle around the the lake. Twisters in Sept. are not a worry. The season is over in July. They are possible but not probable. E-mail me for more data. I spend alot of time on that lake in the summer.

I have been there, the Illinois river runs next to it. There are canoe liveries all around and plenty of places to camp. Have fun.
