So I'm not sure if this is kosher to post this sort of thing on this board, so if this gets taken down so be it, but there is a coupon code for 40% off backcountry.com (i.e. that $1000 kayak you wanted is $600, or that Western Mountaineering bag that's never on sale, is) Seems to be hush hush - don't call them and start asking about it.

Here's how it works, be sure to do in this exact order:

1. Log on to backcountryoutlet.com with your backcountry account, or create one.

2. Click the "store" tab to go over to the backcountry.com side and shop away.

3. When finished, click back to the outlet tab and enter code 2X9-1-YEL9U, your cart should be discounted 40%, and there is free shipping over $50 too.

I would act quickly, someone already called backcountry about a similar code and they took it down. Nothing like impulse buying.

Hope this works for you as it did for me,
Chris

It works!
Sorry Supertroll--worked for me too. Though on one of my purchases it wouldn't give me the discount because the sale price was better!

Same here, not all items got an add'l discount, went back this AM and picked up some Precip bottoms for $44.97. Need to check now that I bought them to see if that was any kind of a deal. I know from shopping in Dec. that they don't have the best prices online. They will match prices, if you give them a link to the competition, but to me, you might as well buy it elsewhere to save the hassle unless you need to combine items to get to the $50 mark to get free economy shipping. If you bought from them before, you can get upgraded shipping. On line last night for two hours checking out shorts etc. Really tempted to see if I could pick up that MH down jacket and that new Golite pack and the new trail runners and and and.

I would love to buy some trail runners but how can you buy a new item without trying it on? If you had them before and know your size sure but I have to wait till I get to a store to try on a bunch. Ah well!

Thanks ChrisM and thanks Hikerduane, I only went there cause you said it worked for you. So thanks for MAKING me spend the moola! grumble grumble!!

My pleasure. If I get to your part of the country, I'll spring for refreshments. I did get a good price on the PreCip pants, just checked out REI as my baseline. I was tempted to get a down jacket, but I have other things I need more than another jacket to gather dust in my closet.

According to Eric over at HighSierraTopix, the discount has been around for quite awhile. Funny, when I tried to get the Backcountry online help rep to give me a break on the price of a Golite pack back in early Jan. they wouldn't budge a bit after I was honest with them and said they were the only ones left who had the size, color of 08 Pinnacle I could find. Never got one. Not all of us knew about this. Picked up a Icebreaker 260 weight top also last night. No bottoms my size unless I go on a beer diet.

I got the red one Tango! Do you have this pack? It was time to replace my old Mountainsmith Chimera. The old girl served me well for 9 years, but alas, the hip belt is too big for me (lost some weight) so I decided it was time for a new pack.

This will be my winter pack and long distance (week long) pack. I was a little worried about the weight of the pack, but the pack fit so great and carried the load so well that I was sold!

I have the Ariel 60 in eggplant. Love it! It is the first pack that was comfortable after my back problems. I also was concerned about the weight but much more comfortable than my Golite Trek that I used for years. Enjoy!
