Just Paintbrush?
If you reach the divide, you'll wanna continue down Cascade - I promise. The Cascade/Paintbrush loop is only 18 miles. I did it as an overniter. By far, the best 48 hours I ever spent in the backcountry...

Tough hike, btw. Paintbrush Canyon gains 4000' elev. in 8 miles...

Yo Bear! I'll get back to you on this one. There's a possibility that I'll be in the area looking for something to do around that time.

Hello?
Surely there is someone out there who wants to join Jerbear & I on this adventure. Step up, sign up, gear up & man up ( or woman up).

This is going to be a great hike!

They require cannisters now?

I saw no bears, but found a marked tree that was clawed about 10 feet high.

Cascade had been ripped from one side to the other by windshear (it looked like where a tornado had passed through, but all the trees were lying in one direction).
I actually pitched my tent deep into a pile of blown-downs, hoping to discourage curious bears - lol!

I rented ax/crampons, and used them. Yet none of the people (prolly a dozen) I encountered had them and did fine w/o them. Plus, I did it in mid-June.

I recommend you do the loop clockwise. That way, you walk down paintbrush. I did it strictly by happenstance, but was very glad I did.

Have fun!

What's up...
Where are all the Backpackers for this trip? It can't be because it's a Jearbear production, or that Golfhiker is the only other sign up. So what' up? Better sign on soon, cause when it's full, it's full.

That's all I'm sayin.

Maybe it's the "Sign up at your own risk." It's a worthwhile trip though. Just tough to get out there.

Just so that you are aware>>>> We are having an unusually cold and damp spring in Western Wyoming. Snow pack is probably at a lower elevation than normal for this time of year. Keep an eye on this, and please plan accordingly.

Simer... I'm living near Pinedale. Stop by a bar or the Outdoor Shop and ask for the Viking. Someone will point you in the right direction.

Thanks Goat. We appreciate the input. We are trying to be careful in our planning, understanding the cold, elevation, snow, etc. and gear up accordingly.

Can't wait to hear about it. I've already started daydreaming about backpacking up there. :)

Hey, there's actually mountains out there! When we were there around Christmas it was mostly socked in. Everything was brilliant white or dark gray.

I hope everyone had a really good time on this trip. I really want to get out there (and up into the actual mtns.) some day. Soonish.
