Man, I was hoping this was going to be a paddle from Crawfordsville to Terrehaute via Sugar Creek, then down the Wabash. I'd like to do that someday.

You're tellin me?!
My only over night canoe trip was from C'ville to W side of Turkey Run. 30 miles in 2 days, and we walked along side the canoe nearly the whole way due to low water! My friend was so sunburnt by the time we made camp that he vowed to never go into the wilderness with me again! It was overcast that weekend, and I kept pushing the sunscreen on him but he wouldn't use it. Then we were raided by raccoons in the night and had zero food until we got back to Crawfordsville! Chalk that one up to experience. I now have rodent proof bags that I hang @ night. ;)

i'm definitely planning on floating some of the wabash this year. a couple of years ago i did a couple of trips on it and they were awesome.

the upper big walnut is something i just ran recently and that was a great little run. i still need to finish it off to join up to the southern leg that i;ve done many times.

one of the best floats in Indiana. i've walked it a few times too. ;) :D

there is rarely a time when the cr. isn't runnable from narrows on though. the whole thing could be ran to montezuma over a weekend with good water.

i've ran it from that hendricks co. park to the second bridge south of us36. i have not ran from there to just south of GC.. maybe 1/2 way to oakalla covered. i've been from there all the way to worthington on the white r. that was a very peaceful float.

I still look back on it as a good trip. We saw bald eagles fishing from the cliffs! My first time for that.

“Ah, "the green iron"... If that bridge could talk... I'd have to shoot it. LOL!”

lol.. is that what it's called?.. there is another iron bridge closer to GC, pretty close to the portage. not sure what that one is called. the stretch from that dam all the way to houck covered has to have a lot of water to float it. but the stretch i have seen (via arches rr bridge) is really nice too.

you lost me there.
The Green Iron is on the Hendricks/Putnam CO line rd. about a half mile S of 236. There's lots of covered bridges past the Green Iron, if you like them.
very old, and most of them hold memories for me in one way or another. Pretty area.

Offtrack what is the home 20 if you are talking about the Big Walnut me and Jake have floated it several times we usually go from McCoulds Park I think it is right around the county line just north of 36 and go down to Bakers Camp Bridge we have some Friends that live along the creek and we take out there do you have a kayak or canoe?

Me and the boys are heading down to the Deam and take a float trip for the week of Spring Break it is a nice float.

This Two Lakes is a real nice place too sign up and go on the trip last year we didn't eat any fish but we had some great food and then afterwards go eat at the Lookout Restauarte it will be a fun time and it's right after the Holiday so maybe there will not be too many people.

coyote. i went down to the next one south. concrete iirc. i thought i read it somewhere that one is not supposed to park at bakers camp. i don't think there was room there anyway. the next bridge isn't very far either but there was a pileup from the bend just north of the bridge to the bridge.

i got a slightly ~melted canoe. ;)

OF have you ever went to the Nature Perserve just south of 36 I don't know the name of it there is a small 1 room cabin there are stair from the creek up to the little cabin I always thought I would float down thru there and camp in the cabin some night I need to give my buddies a call out there I have talked to them in a long while. That is a great creek to float in the early spring I wish I had a free weekend and run it here in a few weeks it will warm up enough to get wet and will be a great time to run down thru there it is always nice to check the flow rate before you head down it as more than once we have had to do alot of dragging and I am getting to old for that.

I ahve alot going on this summer maybe we can get a free weekend and go down to Monore this Summer that is going to be my spot for the summer my oldest son is working at the BSA camp this summer and we will have to take him back and forth every week but we just got him a new solo canoe and I am hoping he will say dad just bring down the canoes and lets head out for the weekend instead of going home I'm sure I can talk him into a few wekkend trips on the lake.

nope, never even heard of this preserve. if you recall the name, let me know.

as to floating, definitely would like to do that again with more water this time... it was barely there last time.. i think i may have had to get out once or twice.. but that's a nice ride anyway.

your boy working at Ransburg? those are my old stomping grounds too. lol

i gave up lake canoing once our gov started to charge canoeist for floating on the lakes. they have too much of my money as it is. i'm exclusively a creek/river floater now. and we have plenty of those. :)

I am guessing the best way to get there from Memphis is up through Dyersburg, over to Paducah and on north from there.

I guess I need to start looking at the map.

and if you have a need to go via Dyesburg then just cut up from Brownsville/Jackson. it's a mile longer overall (then option 3) but the same amount of time. it's more highway, so it may actually be a tad faster. :)

I thought I69 was coming through Dyersburg.

The only part of it I have seen connects I55 and Tunica.
chili36

Interstate 69 will take Tennessee 300 northwest from Interstate 40 to U.S. 51, then follow one of two potential routes: Alignment A-1 or Alignment A-3. Alignment A-1 heads west then north on a new location along a route that is approximately 15.2 miles in length and crosses the Loosahatchie River. Alignment A-3, on the other hand, remains east of U.S. 51 and avoids the river. A-3 is only slightly longer, approximately 15.3 miles in length. A-1 appears to be preferred by citizens in the area; a final decision on the route is expected in November 2004. At Millington, Interstate 69 will again meet Interstate 269, then continue north parallel to U.S. 51. The freeway may follow one of two alternate alignments (see Segment 8 Map between Millington and Dyersburg, then take over Interstate 155/U.S. 412 north around Dyersburg. From Dyersburg northeast to Union City and South Fulton (see Segment 7 Map), Interstate 69 will follow a new alignment that will connect directly to the Julian M. Carroll Purchase Parkway.3 In addition, the Tennessee 22 freeway is proposed to extend west to meet Interstate 69 and then become a spur route: Interstate 169.

Kentucky

Interstate 69 will continue along U.S. 51 north to the Julian M. Carroll Purchase Parkway connection at Fulton, Kentucky as part of Segment 6 (Fulton north to Eddyville). Interstate 69 will follow the Purchase Parkway until its end at Interstate 24. Between 1991 and 1999, it appeared as if Interstate 69 would be constructed on a new alignment from the parkway terminus northeast to Henderson, Kentucky. However, in May 1999, the state of Kentucky announced that Interstate 69 would follow the existing Wendell Ford/Western Kentucky Parkway and Breathitt/Pennyrile Parkway (Segment 5, from Eddyville to Nortonville, and Nortonville to Henderson). It will then cross the Ohio River to enter Evansville, Indiana (as part of Segment 4, which carries Interstate 69 through Henderson then north into Evansville).

The U.S. 41 bridges that connect Henderson and Evansville are not adequate, and new Ohio River crossing will be built for Interstate 69. The bridge and connections to Interstate 164 on the north and the Breathitt/Pennyrile Parkway to the south will cost $652 million (assuming totaling four miles with approaches over flood plains and lanes of traffic ultimately).2 The Fiscal Year 2002 Transportation Appropriation Bill specifically designated the Purchase Parkway in Kentucky as Interstate 69, thus ending any confusion about the routing Interstate 69 would take in the Bluegrass State.

it's all marked in ky (Purchase Pkwy, I-24, western KY Pkwy and Pennyrile Pkwy) as I-69 but with green signs (maybe future route?)(2-3y/a). it's still highly controversial issue around here in IN.

They aren't too far away from having it punched around Memphis. We have an outer loop that is about complete and I 69 will go around that loop from I 55 back up to US 51. The bridge across the Mississippi River will go across at Tunica.

US 51 north of Memphis is 4 lane. It will make it easier for me to get to the mid west hikes when it is finished.

Of course, I will be about 70 by then.
